This is only happening in one section of our sky. This is looking east. It's not caused by the airplanes, because it would be happening all over the Vegas skies. It's gorgeous, but kind of creepy too. I'm only sharing the best pictures I got of this.

I took a video of it on my cell phone, so it's hard to see it. But this is kind of what it's doing (in the video below)... just not as extreme.

Please don't call me crazy. There was NO rain. It's not an actual rainbow. Has anyone ever seen something like this before??

We always called those 'Poor Dogs' when I was growing up. The old timers always said they meant rain was coming in the next 24 hours.
Let me know if you get some rain.

No rain in the forecast. It's going to be 95+ all weekend. I've just never seen anything like this before... except in that video. And that video I posted isn't exactly what it's doing, but just the closest thing I could compare it to.

Bah. What do forecasters know. I'll take the old timers rules anyday. Hell, they would cut open a persimmon and tell me what kind of winter we were going to have.

That is true. We had a storm come out of no where earlier this week. It wasn't even showing on the radar. Some weird things going on here lately... lol
-
I've seen similar things in the sky, I think it's really like a rainbow. There is enough moisture in the cloud to bend the light, and you happened in the right spot to see it.

I've seen similar things here, but they usually don't last very long ,

Could what you saw have been a result of this?

Has it rained? Has it looked like it might've rained somewhere close?

Check out this link...it may answer your question.

Also, google rainbow clouds and check those images...they resemble what you posted. Here are a couple...

No. Just hot hot hot. If it's a result of what Dixierose posted, I can understand that. It was really bright outside and we had wispy type clouds all day. I was the passenger in the car yesterday and I think that's why I noticed it. It has probably happened numerous times before. It was just really pretty and I would love to see it again.

I was hoping for a HAARP joke. :rotf:

What they need to do is use HAARP to park a High pressure area just ahead of Yellowstone to deflect the jet stream away from there (of course this is theoretics).

Not having much to do with rainbow clouds, I know, but is it close enough? :-)

I think it's what they call a sun dog.
