If it were up to the states and their citizens' votes, would slavery still be in effect in places?
The thread title's question is purely rhetorical. There is no need to answer.
Civil rights are a federal issue.
Marriage equality is a civil right.
Civil rights can't be upheld or overturned by votes.
A civil right is a civil right or it isn't.
I say it again: Marriage equality is a civil right.
Whether one feels okay about it or not is immaterial.
