Self-defense killings have TRIPLED! :panic:
House Democrats said Tuesday they will offer an amendment to push to overturn stand-your-ground self-defense laws in states like Florida.
The amendment, which would withhold some grants from states that have such laws, will come as part of the House's debate on the Commerce Department spending bill.
"'Shoot-first' laws have already cost too many lives. In Florida alone, deaths due to self-defense have tripled since the law was enacted. Federal money shouldn't be spent supporting states with laws that endanger their own people," said Reps. Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the two Democrats who are offering the legislation. "This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don't enforce seat-belt laws."
Florida's law, which allows residents to use force in response to an attack without first having to retreat, has come under scrutiny after the nationally-polarizing death of teenager Trayvon Martin. George Zimmermann, a neighborhood watch volunteer, has been charged with murder in the case.
Apparently, too many criminals are being gunned down by their would-be victims.
We shall call this the "Trayvon Martin Safety in the Workplace Act"

OK, seriously, I know they have a stake in this, politically speaking. I know this is how the game is played.
But for ****'s face would you idiots at least learn how to frame a decent argument? Give us at least a good 5 minutes to have to ponder your position instead of 5 seconds before the punchlines start flowing. Liberals aren't even fun anymore.
BTW - what makes these asshats think they have a right to tell states how to write criminal law?

Stand-your-ground law:
The law's effect on crime rates is disputed between supporters and critics of the law. The third edition of More Guns, Less Crime (University of Chicago Press, 2010) by John Lott provides the only published, refereed academic study on these laws.[5] The research shows that states adopting “Stand Your Groundâ€/"Castle doctrine" laws reduced murder rates by 9 percent and overall violent crime by 11 percent, and that occurs even after accounting for a range of other factors such as national crime trends, law enforcement variables (arrest, execution, and imprisonment rates), income and poverty measures (poverty and unemployment rates, per capita real income, as well as income maintenance, retirement, and unemployment payments), demographic changes (broken down by race, gender and age), and the national average changes in crime rates from year-to-year and average differences across states (the fixed year and state effects).
Florida state representative Dennis Baxley, an author of the law, notes that crime rates in Florida dropped significantly between 2005, when the law was passed, and 2012.

Yeah but the more criminals law abiding citizens kill, the smaller the democratic voter pool gets.

Keith Ellison is that moonbat muzzie who cries faux tears when talking about muzzies who were killed by other muzzies on 9/11.
-
Hmm, so the wrong people are getting killed according to Dims. They'd rather see the murder rate of innocent civilians increase. ::)

Two of the biggest barking moonbats in Congress. I don't think this is going anywhere. I can just imagine the backlash.

No kidding? When did that happen and did anyone say why he did it?
I was going to post something along the lines of "well, Congressman DUmbass, seatbelts normally won't try and break into your house and kill you", but it looks like the retard may have saved me the trouble.
