Quote
The losses at Oprah Winfrey’s stumbling cable channel are approaching a staggering $330 million, according to a report over the weekend.

And now industry insiders are predicting the Oprah Winfrey Network will not be able to survive another year if it does not find a hit show and make a dramatic turnaround.

Discovery, which partnered 50-50 with Winfrey to launch the network and has been underwriting its costs, has invested nearly $600 million in it since 2008, according to an extensive report in Businessweek magazine.

But since it started on the air in January 2011, “OWN may have lost as much as $330 million,” the magazine reports. ...

I bet very little of that loss is actually Oprah's money.

Well, clearly Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil haven't done a full-blown series of shows on this little factoid. They haven't investigated to see how far the damage has gone, how many have contemplated suicide, how many have actually resorted to drug abuse for this catastrophe.

I mean, we're looking at entire GENERATIONS OF PEOPLE that would be adversely impacted by this catastrophic incident. It really is a shame.

Not to worry. Obama will give her a bailout with our tax dollars. After all she is a black woman which qualifies her in two ways for subsidies.

Affirmative action will get you in the Whitehouse, it'll get you a TV channel on cable but it won't guarantee you viewers.

There is a theory out there that her endorsement of Obama is what started the ratings decline on her show and is what has led to low ratings on OWN.

Of course having a caustic gasbag like Rosie O'Donnell on screen doesn't help either.  :fuelfire:

Actually not a theory TRG, Oprah used to be somewhat apolitical on the air......she would invite candidates from both parties on the show, and interview them with relative objectivity.

When she came out with her slobbering endorsement of Obama, her ratings plummeted 30% overnight, and continued sliding from that point forward.

Her target demo was married women, 24 - 45, middle income, not working.  IOW surburban/rural housewives.....not exactly a Democrat stronghold.

Poor business judgement for a woman that is supposedly very bright......

You would have a hard time convincing her and her liberal friends of that fact. Kinda funny because they are so entrenched in their radical ideology that common sense just gets thrown right out the window.

Personally I can't stand the woman and her fawning troup of jugheads who hang on her every word on TV, in her magazine, and wherever it is she surfaces (supermarket checkout stands), but there is something to say for her business instinct.

There may well be a correlation between her stupid, "He's the ONE" when referring to the Magic Negro and her ratings having plummeted. Then again, there may not be.

She is (or was until late - dunno, really), the richest female "entertainer" in the US. You don't get there by being stupid on a consistent basis. So she has advisers who know what they're doing in keeping that goose (Oprah) laying golden eggs.

Oprah pretty much singlehandedly got Dr. Phil McGraw and that fast-talking dood Dr. Oz on the map. So she's instigated spinoffs that have done well. IIRC from Mrs E's raptured expression while she ogles Drs. Phil and Oz while I go trooping through the living room doing something constructive, their programs are on OWN. Aren't they?

Anyway, my point is, Oprah has intimated that she will retire, or did retire briefly before coming back to her fawning troup of glassy-eyed, slack-jawed, mouth-breathing women or women wannabes.

This simply could be the end of an era. Barry may not have anything to do with it.

Her success comes from the fact that she took over the airwaves when Phil Donahue got out. She inherited and added to that audience.

True dat. Montel Williams, Arsenio Hall, and Jenny Jones all flamed out for various reasons. Williams because he became a dope-smoking fool (painkiller due to MS), Arsenio because he was incoherent and nervous all the time, and Jones because she introduced a faggot to the guy who would, in a couple of days, kill him.

Let's talk Jerry Springer for a minute. Or maybe not!  :rotf:

My wife dragged me to a Donahue show once. Little did I suspect that we'd be the only white people in the audience. Why? Because Stevie Wonder was his guest, and the audience was packed after Donahue's troops spread the word.

Pain and misery on me............
