Musty smell in books.
I think we've covered this before, but the brain isn't clicking in for me. I found a book yesterday that is only about 25 years old, but has a musty smell. An exact copy recently sold for $75 on ebay, so I want to get that odor out. Any suggestions? I've currently got it in a sealed bag with a little bowl of baking soda.

2. I have good luck with Lysol.
I spray in the air above the book and fan the pages as the mist settles. Do this at least several time and more for really bad ones. Works fine.

3. That's an interesting idea. I've got some Oust so maybe I'll try that.

4. I've tried talcum powder.
But then you end up with smudges of it that could end up reported to DHS. Ha!
I don't recommend talcum.

Last time I bought a used book it had a dryer sheet inside it. Wonder if that is why? Never really thought of it.

Get a container that can be sealed airtight, that is big enough for the object that needs to be deodorized.
Fill the bottom with activated charcoal and baking soda
Place the object that needs to be deodorized in the container, but on a rack or in a bowl or something so that it isn't actually touching the charcoal/baking soda mix.
Seal the container, and put it someplace warm and dry for a few days.
Lather, rinse & repeat if necessary.

Take it to the laundry mat and toss it in one of those industrial strength washing machines. That should get the smell completely out in just a few minutes.
She didn't say anything about wanting to preserve the book. She just wants to get the smell out.

Use fire.
Natures cleaner.
That is all.
