Oh my.
It was about a month, six weeks ago, that the leftist party in Queensland (roughly, northeastern Australia) got routed--and big time--in the state elections; in fact the leftist party there's in artificial life-support now--and nary a peep about it from the primitives.
The primitives are so provincial, thinking there's nothing outside Medford, Massachusetts or San Diego, California.
Anyway, the leftist party in Queensland got routed--and big time--in the local elections this past Saturday.

What has been achieved in Qld
OK all you Queenslanders, you now came Campbell Newman as your Premier and he has started to cut costs,so in all honesty what has he done to improve living in Queensland.
If its the same as NSW,well nothing has changed and we are getting worse instead of better.
Just interested to see it form a Queenlanders perspective.......

1. South Brisbane by election on At 8.10 pm swing against ALP but should hold on narrowly.
Former Labor heartland going the way of QLD. Lots of rebuilding to do.
Yeah, there's a lot of "rebuilding" to do.
There's nothing left of the old, to build on.
Too bad for the primitives.

This, from another campfire in the Australia forum on Skins's island, dealing with the state elections some time ago, but posted only yesterday:

17. Queenslanders get what they deserve
All I will say is that you deserve what you voted for.
We have a Liberal/ NCP here in NSW and they have done NOTHING for us since coming into office. As usual they are in it for the money and nothing else. The Premier Barry O'Farrell PROMISED (yeah right) that he would block further electricity rises and that hasnt happened. He stated that the rural NSW hospitals would benefit under a liberal Government, that hasnt happened. All organizations that have applied for grants have been rejected,UNLESS you live/reside in a Liberal held seat.I am in a Nationals seat and missed out on all 4 grant applications.
O'Farrell promised that we wouldnt privitise that and wouldnt privitise that and guess what he has done, privitized NSW water and also the desal plant,AND who misses out....us in the bush.
He is tarred with the same brush as Campbell newman so I have no sympathy for you Qlders. You get what you deserve.

Sounds like things in Australia are about to get a lot better. :-)

IMO the Queensland election is a hint of what's coming for the Ranga (PM Gilliard) and her leftist buddies. They barely hung on to power in 2010...the current PM stuck a broadsword in the back of her predecessor to attain the top post she has now...they've got a MinDef that hates the military there.
Gilliard is an Obama clone...literally...he'll introduce some new idea or new agency...and you can bet your ass a few weeks later Ms. Gilliard is doing the same thing.
Not to mention the problems with illegal immigrants and Islamic nuts in the form of Lebanese motorcycle gangs.
People in the country by and large are tired of what Labor has done for them...they're ready for a change.

One of the hardest things to remember when visiting.
The Liberals are the Conservatives, and Labour are the liberals.
Drove me nuts the first couple times I went there. :banghead:

I have always been amused at the juxtaposition of the terms "liberal" and "conservative," especially as they apply to financial liaisons. In general, a "liberal" economic policy negates 3rd party socialist control (taxation), while a "conservative" financial policy would imply a 3rd party socialist control. And of course, "red" has always been identified with the communist and socialist parties around the world (signifying the blood lost by laborers fighting the oppressors), while "blue" has traditionally been the opposite: a solid, stable commitment to individual liberty.
Oh well, enough on that. I will be coming up with a new paper in a week or so in which I'll expand on what true individual freedoms and liberty mean, including how it should be pursued on an international scale.
