Title: Some Facebook questions

I don't know if I should have posted this here or in the "Computer Related" forum, but what I need to know is important and the lounge gets more traffic than the computer forum.

This may seem to be some stupid questions to some, but I know very little about facebook. In the photo below how does the location get added? Does the user add it? Does facebook add it automatically? Could the user actually be at Bubba's Bar and Grill instead of the location shown? Is there any way to tell the user's actual location?

There is a Check-In feature on Facebook (it's not automatic, you have to click on the button). 

My assumption is that it uses the GPS on your phone to place you at a specific location/address.  You don't even have to get out of your car.

So it would be safe to assume that this individual actually was at Boston Mass General?
