Need advice on student loan issue

I have this knot in my stomach right now. I have been out of the country for two years, now partially homeless, and I get this letter in the mail from ECMC with a 5 figure number I owe for my student loan. I have no clue how they found this address (possibly from my address for food stamps). I can't see how anyone can pay their student loans back -- especially if they are working a $10 an hour job. I called Sen Boxer's office and was told student loans are not dischargable--like a credit card is. I guess I default since I not a cousin of Mitt's nor have I worked at Bain Capital. What do I do? The interest is stacked against me. What should be about 25-30,000 minus the 17,000 I've already paid, the amount is well over 50. I am disgusted at our system of educating students. Yet, we have to suffer with debt. It is really depressing me. How do I handle this?

Get your car tuned up and inflate your tires, the savings from not having to buy so much gas should pay off your student loans in no time.  :mental:

Call the 800 number on the notice. Work out a payment schedule. Once you start paying down the debt, some of the outstanding interest will be forgiven. We helped you get your degree. The least you can do is try to pay us back.

Well, there are two paths:

Conservative solution - follow through on contacting them, get a real job, get off food stamps, pay it.

Liberal solution - get credit cards, max them out buying stuff you can convert to cash, take any cash advances you can, steal shit from relatives and sell it on eBay, settle the loans, then file bankruptcy.

Obama is making peoples mortgage payments for them and putting gas in their car, I don't see why he can't pay off a few student loans. :-)

I thought there was a push to add student loans to bankruptcy's?

I have my loans through direct loans and they make the payback schedule based on what your income is. And have a set up where if you make too little, your payments are zero. They also have loan forgiveness, which is where if you work for the state or government and make your payments on time for the first ten years, the rest is forgiven. There are ways around it. He could even get a hardship deferment, or a forbearance if he needs it. He just needs to get off his ass and make the phone call. If he doesn't, they will garnish his wages and take his income tax until it is payed.

That is exactly what the DUmmie wants. Then he/she can go "Oh whoa is me. The mean man/society is keeping me down."

These student loan stories are nightmares.  I just do not understand how somebody could sign on a dotted line for a loan for ungodly amounts of money for a degree in a field that will just not pay back.  And there's never a Plan B.  Remember that book "Do What you Love, the Money will Follow?"  Overly optimistic claptrap.   Do what you love in your spare time.

Hey that's what the DUmmies have been doing...having sex, doing drugs, protesting, sleeping and waiting for the government checks to come in the mail.

Yeah, considering the democrat party is the welfare party. It would be stupid to think that they actually work.

It dosen't say it is actually making $10 per hour but that would be about right for a BA in underwater basket weaving.

O'Bummer's admin has taken direct control over student loans. Used to be you could get a government backed loan from your bank, and pay a lot less on the interest rate. Now that the government has complete control, you pays, or you are in deep trouble.

My daughter has a student loan for pharmacology. She used to be able just to pay her bank. No more! When the O'Bummer took them over her interest rate went up several points, and if she doesn't pay it back after graduation, she could get put in the poor house with garnishment!

Why hasn't the DUchebag got a job with a great degree and in this marvelous 0bama economy?

Direct loans is a division of Pennsylvania Higher Education. It is state ran. Everything in the state is converting to that because of how banks were charging too high of interest rates and not allowing any student to get a deferment, or forbearance. Basically they were ripping students off. They were charging as much as 20% interest on the loans. My direct loan interest rate is 6.0%. I'm not sure how it works in your state, though.

Good news, DUmmy... They'll forgive your debts if you're dead. So... You know what to do now.

Don't give them any ideas or Sallie Mae will be asking for your next of kin.
