No link, but I heard Newt saying that he will get a large boost from Rick Santorum withdrawing from the race. He was on Fox News earlier. I think he may get a small bump, but not enough to matter. Newt may be the smartest of the candidates this year, but he also has the biggest ego of them , it seems.

"Large" is relative, I guess. Looks like Romney has it in the bag, for better or for worse. I just hope he picks a palatable VP instead of going the "If one RINO is good, two is even better" route.

Rep. Allen West . . . ohpleaseohpleaseohplease! Or, Nikki Haley!

If Romney has any common sense at all, he will pick someone from the south.

My cynical self says West would be the perfect choice in this Trayvon Martin world. Of course, he's been my pick from the beginning, even when I was hoping Sarah would get in the race. Hopefully Romney and his team are smart enough to not pick some moderate milquetoast or someone like Christy. I've heard his name bandied about. Two white guys from eastern states? Not a winning combo.

Jan Brewer? If anything it would make the DUmmies apoplectic.
-
Next to Palin, Newt was my second choice. He will get a little boost but not enough to make a difference.
As far as a VP is concerned, no other candidate is better than Rubio. He is a southerner, a conservative, a minority and can help to win his home state. Obummer can not afford to lose the state of Florida. If he does, it is curtrains for him.

Go away Newt. I use to really like you. Maybe if you go away for awhile I'll start liking you again.
-
The only "bounce" Newt is going to get is the dead cat/bad check bounce. He's fighting with Ron Paul now, nobody else.
As soon as Santorum dropped out, it was Romney's race. Although I will agree we need a preferably Southern rock-ribbed conservative, and while Rubio says he's not interested, he'd fit the bill and then some. Bob McDonnell would be another good choice, Rob Portman is another possibility although he's not from the South (but Ohio is still critical.)
I don't see Romney going with Christie for a couple of reasons--too regional (NJ vs. MA) and people might tire quickly of his bludgeoning style, although they do get along well.

Both are too new for this go around. I would love to see Gov Haley have a prominent speaking roll at the convention though.

He'll pick his little buddy..............Ron Paul, since he is the only real conservative out there

Maybe Rand Paul?

I don't see Rand jumping ship like that. Like father, like son.

I see Rand as Ron Paul, but sane.

Ron Paul's foreign policy is worse than Obama's, IMO. At least Obama realizes that the Iranians are assraping him. Paul would never care.

Rand is playing his cards close to his chest -- and he's got plenty of time to revert to insanity.

*sigh*.....You just can't accept the foreign policy of the only "REAL" conservative in the race. Dr. Paul cares more abut this country and shows it in his foreign policy.

Where's your :sarcasm: smiley, CH? I can't believe you're serious...

Isolationism as a foreign policy went out of style with WWII.

With a trade deficit, how can we be isolationist ? I know, all that debt we owe to China because they bought our government bonds, isolate them from interest and principle payments.

About 53 percent of US debt held by the public was held domestically, according to a recent study from the Congressional Budget Office. Foreigners hold about 47 percent of US public debt. And yes, the largest foreign holder here is China – but only by a hair. Chinese investors are owed 9.8 percent of US debt. Next comes Japan, at 9.6 percent, and the United Kingdom, at 5.1 percent.
Oil exporting nations as a group, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, etc., account for about 2.6 percent of US debt. Brazil has 1.8 percent. The rest is split among lots of other countries.

Go back about another 40 years or so and you'll be closer. (Spanish-American War.)
