Title: My husband's '68 bug
Post by: BEG on April 07, 2012, 10:55:34 PM
My husband bought a totaled '68 bug when he was 14 years old.  He did all the body work, lowered it, bought a new motor, put it in himself, also bought those fenders,  tires and wheels. The day he was driving it to the shop to have it repainted he wrecked it (I was sitting in the back on a cinder block). He fixed the damage himself then had it painted inside and out.

It was the COOLEST car in high school and my boyfriend (now husband) did it all himself. I posted this in the lounge so DUmmies can see, THIS is why he is successful. He is a resourceful self motivated hard worker. He has worked since he was 14. Nothing has ever been handed to him.

A friend from high school posted a picture of it on Facebook today. It made me smile...the memories of the times we have had in this car (and on it  :p ). Notice my name (and my husbands) written on the windshield. The other car was his best friends (twins named Ricky and Randy).

It was a cool car back in the day. All the "womens" wanted him, that's why my name is on the windshield...claiming my man.

A couple of sisters at my high school rode to school in a VW Thing. They were embarrassed to be seen in it even though almost every guy in High School offered to buy it from their older brother who owned it. His standard reply was 'Go to hell".

I had a VW Thing, had some great times in it, too, I might add.

When I was a senior in college, one of my friends had one.  He said that it would go just about anywhere.

It's still a cool car.  In this day.  :-)

True. He sent the picture to my son and he said he wanted it.

Must have gotten the parts down the road from here a spell. Couple acres of  nothing but VW bugs in various stages of ill repair. In Fact the place is called Bug Acres.  :)

I've seen it before in the same area.  I think the Skittles paint job is intentional.
