Obama says he will ‘respect’ Supreme Court's ruling on his healthcare law

Quote
President Obama softened his rhetoric Tuesday about the possibility of a Supreme Court decision striking down his healthcare reform law, after Republicans accused him of “threatening” the high court.

Obama said Monday that a ruling against the healthcare law would show a “lack of judicial restraint.” Republicans quickly accused the president of trying to intimidate the court.

Obama said Tuesday that he would respect the court’s opinion, but still believes the justices should not overturn the healthcare law.

“The point I was making is that the Supreme Court is the final say on our Constitution, and all of us have to respect it,” he said. “But it’s precisely because of that extraordinary power that the court has traditionally exercised significant restraint and deference to a duly elected legislature.”

Republicans also mocked Obama for saying Monday that a decision striking down the healthcare law, or its requirement that almost everyone buy health insurance, would be “unprecedented.” The Supreme Court frequently overturns federal laws, they noted.
More at the link. Essentially Obama says the same thing he did before, just in different words.

orly?

The US Supreme Court has declared a total of 1,315 laws (as of 2002, the most recent year for which statistics are available; the database may be updated in 2012) unconstitutional using the process of judicial review.

The first time the Court declared a federal law unconstitutional was in Chief Justice John Marshall's opinion for Marbury v. Madison, 5 US 137 (1803), in which he asserted Section 13 of the Judiciary Act of 1789 was unconstitutional because it extended to the Supreme Court an act of original jurisdiction not explicitly granted by the Constitution.

Unconstitutional and Preempted Laws 1789-2002
According to the GPO (Government Printing Office Database):

1789-2002 Acts of Congress Held as Unconstitutional..............................158

1789-2002 State Statutes held unconstitutional......................................935

1789-2002 City Ordinances held unconstitutional....................................222

1789-2002 State and City laws preempted by Federal laws.......................224

Total State, Local and Federal Laws Declared Unconstitutional................1,315

Total State and Local Law Preempted by Federal Laws..............................224

Total Laws Overturned, all governments..............................................1,539

I'm sure Obama knows all that. He is, afterall, a "constitutional scholar".  :whistling:

Today we have States rights to legalise drugs, euthenics, set laws as to the penalty for people for crimes on the States books, the death penalty, and inter state transportation of guns.-------So Federal law trumps State law, the wishes of the voters in any and all States now have no meaning, Hell why elect a Governor that can do nothing but ignore the needs of the voters unless some out of  FED. bureaucratic allowes them to do so.

Now the Feds are involved in so called HATE CRIMES. not the lynching or  gang killings of one race against another, but crazy stuff.

Say a back woman of 70 is mugged by a White dude and she punches the punk in the nose then is reported to have said---Take that you white bastard.  Seems the punch in the nose was a Hate Crime by the victim. She may have more problems now with the law then the Punk trying to steal her purse, -----attempted theft is a low crime town problem---  but a HATE Crime is big time Federal crime.

One of my Hero's was and is a small town Sheriff up in Maine that arrested illegal immigrants and was told  that he had to stop arresting people that were here illegally. No more rousting out the bums, street vagrant folks, no more  when stopping a car of people acting suspiciously and taking all to jail as none could speak English. The driver could be arrested but the passengers have the right to go free.

This is the Supreme test you know of our country.   If the President can over ride the Supreme Court, the rest of the our country and what it was will fall.  May as well put the Constitution and the Bill of rights, in storage as a lost article with the Magna Carter.

Is it me or is anyone else reading this as, "ok, I'll respect the court this one time. Consider this a favor. I am your ruler, afterall."?

His arrogance is truly astounding. Kinda like what Sowell wrote the other day when he described how Nixon lied about shit -- Nixon couldn't really tell a lie because you could tell he was telling a lie. Too honest for his own good.

Not Barry. Not only does he lie, but he does it with such impunity and conviction that he manages to suck in all kinds of voters with his lies.

Call me jaded, but when he ran his yap at the 2004 DNC Convention, not only did he not convince me he was the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, but I knew he was a liar.

I simply could not fathom ANYBODY -- even then -- voting for that dangling turd.

Obama plans to rule as a dictator if reelected.

I don't understand why he gets high marks for popularity. He is an ego maniac, a liar, talks down to people and thinks he is ruler of the universe. Plus, he does not know shit about the economy or anything else except community organizing. He put his foot in his mouth threatening the S.C. Hoping his premiere legislation gets overturned.
