Trayvon Martin case exposes worst in media

By Dylan Stableford | The Cutline – 16 hrs ago

The Trayvon Martin case has exposed some of the media's worst tendencies--selective editing, rushing to judgment, stoking anger for ratings and page views--and it's taken more than fake photos, the incendiary stumbles of Geraldo Rivera and Spike Lee and verbal clashes between Piers Morgan and Toure to shine a light on them.

Here are three recent, troubling examples:

1. After ABC News aired surveillance video of George Zimmerman, Martin's shooter, entering a police precinct without any apparent injuries, the Daily Caller treated the tape like a Zapruder film, enhancing still images from the video and concluding that it found "what may be an injury to the back of his head." The site's photo "analysis" of the back of Zimmerman's head--replete with yellow Photoshopped arrows--"indicates what appears to be a vertical laceration or scar several inches long."

Keep in mind, this is the same Daily Caller that published 152 pages of what the conservative site claims were Martin's tweets--which, if they were, prove that Martin was a pretty typical high school male, preoccupied with girls, sex and getting out of class early.

2. NBC told the Washington Post that it has launched an internal investigation of the "Today" show's editorial process after its morning show aired an edited conversation between George Zimmerman and a 911 dispatcher recorded moments before the shooting. The investigation came after Fox News and others pointed out that the network spliced two parts of the call together, making it appear as if Zimmerman had said, "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black." In reality, Zimmerman was answering a dispatcher's question...

3. In an flailing effort to break news in a month-old shooting, CBS News aired an interview with Richard Kurtz, the funeral director who handled Trayvon Martin's burial.

"There were no physical signs like there had been a scuffle," Kurtz declared, which the network said proves Zimmerman's claims of a violent encounter with Martin before the shooting are false. "The hands--I didn't see any knuckles, bruises or what have you, and that is something we would have covered up if it would have been there. He looked perfectly normal to me when he came in and the story just does not make sense that he was in this type of scuffle or fight in anything that we could see."

Except, he said, the gunshot wound.

Nothing here but what we would expect from the obama media.  I hope NBC catches the culprits that "selectively edited" the 911 call although I don't hold out much hope.  I think OJ will find Nicole and Ron's killer before we see any type of accountability from NBC.

NBC has launched an "internal investigation" into finding out who did that.  I think some low-level newbie--or an intern--is going to take the fall, whether or not they want to, and whether or not they actually did it.

NBC did it. They are just covering their necks. Now the truth is coming out and the liberal douchebags are realizing just how ****ed up they are. Look for apologies to come soon.

Don't forget the crusade they launched against the Ford Explorer and the Firestone tires they were wearing.  I seem to recall that after a lot of protests outside the Firestone factories and general community organizing, that was proven to be another "fake but accurate" report.  :banghead:

It was the local Firestone plant that took the biggest hit from that fiasco and it was closed down. The media and government found a scapegoat in Firestone, because it sure was funny that the Ford Explorer underwent a redesign the next model year, and changed the wheel base ratio substantially. Not to mention that the tires on the Exploders were not inflated to Firestone's recommendations.

I totally remember how nice Kirby was! I had friends who went there. PW Village was still kinda nice in the 80's. My mom
moved to MS in 1988. But my dad still lives in Whitehaven. Yup...same house that my granny bought 50+ year ago.

You couldn't pay me to live in M Town now. I don't worry about my dad; I worry about the poor thug who miscalculates him LOL!

Oh, I have some street cred as well. Went to Van Winkle Elementary, Hardy Jr High, and Forest Hill H.S. before transferring to Byram. Google those f'n schools. At VW and Hardy, I was in the Provine H.S. district. Google that school. I doubt ANY of those fruitbats grew up like I did.

They haven't renamed it Memphrica yet? Wasn't that a movement by one of your black officials?

I might need some remedial training on posting the "That's Racist" gif. :racist:

Edited to add. Please overlook my preoccupation with this gif.
I am so in love with it right now.
