Zimmerman case: This is what is at stake

Last edited Sun Apr 1, 2012, 11:47 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Stake, and why the NRA already kicked money to the Zimmerman defense...nothing less than stand your ground laws.

This is why this case has taken on civil rights dimensions. The NRA types fear, wrongly, that this will lead to gun grabbing laws. Of course if you are Wayne LaPierre even revising SYG laws is gun grabbing.

So I expect that aspect of this to take form in the next few weeks.

They are also desperate.

Some defenders have implied medics used surgical glue...well out of the scope of practice for urban EMS in the US.

Others that they used quick clotting powder, again out of the scope of practice for urban EMS.

1. Uh, the NRA has not contributed money to Zimmerman's defense.

Your premise is wrong. Also off topic for GD.

5. The NRA is providing $$$$ for Zimmermans defense?

You have a cite for that, of course.

10. Ties... what "ties"?

The guy sits on the BOA of the NRA?

He's an NRA "Life Member"?

He once shook hands with Wayne LaPierre at a gun show?

He has every Ted Nugent record ever made?

I'm confused here.

Which one?

Cite, please.

Disagree all you want but the laws are now at stake.

Have a wonderful, even fantastic day.

Oh and in my view at the very least they need revision. The author agrees.

And exactly how is discussing SYG laws off topic.

4. No, a group of people in Florida has.

Your premise is still wrong.

And discussion of gun laws goes in the guns group. There's a very explicit mention in the page to post a new GD thread that discussion related to gun laws goes there.

Did the Trayvon Martin case fall off the front pages?

Also this is not jst the law, but civil rights.

Some of us can see beyond you know.

Some of us can, but nadin can't even see her behind.

6. Mabe not the NRA, but The National Association for Legal Gun Defense wants to...

Gun Owners Group Offers $10K to Zimmerman's Defense

A group representing gun owners involved in self-defense shooting incidents has offered to help George Zimmerman with his legal bills, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The National Association for Legal Gun Defense wants to donate $10,000 to help defray Zimmerman's legal expenses, a member, said attorney Blue Rannefeld of Fort Worth, Texas, told the Sentinel on Saturday.

Rannefeld said he is still trying to contact Zimmerman, 28, and his attorney, Craig Sonner of Altamonte Springs, to make the offer.

11. IIRC...

the National Association for Legal Gun Defense is 3 guys in a trailer park.

Quite a bit of difference from an organization with 3 million plus members.

$10,000?

That won't even cover lunch orders for the defense team for the duration of any trial.

3. I see this also as about Bullyism.

The reason for the right backing Zimmerman isnt just racism (which is included in bullyism) it's the support of bullies. The right loves their bullies.

Why does nadin always act as if by putting another primitive on her "iggy" list, she's depriving him, punishing him, in some way?

franksolich's mole would love to be on nadin's iggy list, but can't get there, as nadin's not smart enough to see that kissing her ass sometimes can be accurately thought of as kicking it.

OMG!  :rotf:

I already said this:

Zimmerman should hire Jose Baez (Casey Anthony's lawyer).  So even if he is guilty, he will walk.

I want to understand how after 8 years of the SYG law that this one incident will force a change in the legislation?

I bet it has saved hundreds of people and ended the careers of many a criminal.

House Dems eye policy responses to shooting death of Trayvon Martin
By Mike Lillis    - 04/01/12 12:20 PM ET
In the wake of the slaying of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, House Democrats are drafting legislation designed to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The lawmakers want to adopt tougher rules for neighborhood watch programs, eliminate certain state gun laws, rein in racial profiling and require an examination of racial disparities nationwide.

The Democrats behind the legislation – all members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) – say the steps might have prevented last month's fatal encounter between Martin, 17, an unarmed African-American walking home from a convenience store in Sanford, Fla., and George Zimmerman, 28, a Latino neighborhood watch volunteer carrying a 9mm handgun.

It's a liberal trademark.  I don't know if it's genetic, or environmental, but all liberals have this trait.

Today I heard an obviously black woman, describe him as a "little" boy, for cripes sake! He's over 6 feet tall and played football! Not exactly a babe in the woods! Anyone know the size of Zimmerman?

Never mind the fact DUmmies, he was part of Neighborhood Watch, and took his job seriously.
Never mind the fact he was actin' suspiciously.
Never mind the fact he was walkin' around in a neighborhood that was not his own, in the rain, without a jacket.
Never mind Zimmerman thought he might have been on drugs.
Never mind he confronted Zimmerman and laid hands on him!

None of that shit matters as long as you race baitin' bastards can try and start racial strife!

I'm ashamed you people are part of the human race! Orangutangs have a better sense of morality than you assholes!

I have yet to see any primitives discuss the fact that Zimmerman was injured in this exchange. Pretty peculiar they leave that part out, ain't it?

Some defenders have implied medics used surgical glue...well out of the scope of practice for urban EMS in the US.

Others that they used quick clotting powder, again out of the scope of practice for urban EMS.

Is she claiming that the EMS in an urban setting has no way to deal with bleeding? I would think that an urban setting would have many stabbings and gunshot wounds that could potentially cause a victim to bleed out. Are the EMS in urban areas only able to watch the bleed out occur?

Unlike nads I don't know everything and am just curious.

Any EMT can use pressure dressings/tourniquets, and many probably carry QuikClot Combat Gauze (excellent stuff) for use when needed.

And just a hint for you nads, nothing is out of the scope of practice if your medical control authorizes it. Us EMT's can do whatever the Doc says we can.
