How sexy is the Republican Party right now? How's this for an answer: a rising political star and decorated Iraq War veteran says he's leaving the party because he's sick of the "games."
California Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, a candidate for mayor in San Diego who served for a decade in the Marine Corps, has developed the exasperating habit of actually working across the aisle with Democrats to achieve results. You can guess how popular that makes him in of today's GOP, where compromise is another word for treason. So today, Fletcher posted this video on his blog saying he's had enough and is running as an independent. Among the highlights?
"It’s become evident to me that actually focusing on a solution, of actually trying to get things done, isn't the preferred method of political party insiders."
"I believe it is more important to solve a problem than to preserve that problem to use in a campaign."
"I don't believe we have to treat people we disagree with as an enemy . . . I've fought in a war and I've seen the enemy. We don't have enemies in our political environment here."
"In today’s political environment, you're expected to play the game. . . I've been told by many in the Republican Party I'm not very good at this, and there's a reason: I could care less about playing games."
"I fought in a war, I put it all on the line for my country. I didn't go through all that to come back home and run for office, to play games."
Come on out, moderate, goal-oriented Republicans. We know you're out there.
I can understand where he is coming from. Its for the replies that I posted this.

1. My heart just skipped a beat!
I'm ecstatic to hear the words of a REAL PATRIOT running for office. My God, I almost forgot that real Americans still existed in the halls of government. Can hope yet be far away? Would this man perhaps care to run for president?
C. Melvin
So just a few days ago he was a bigoted, racist, repug. Now all the sudden he is a REAL PATRIOT? So... if you identify yourself as a R and served this country your not a REAL PATRIOT?
Oh... makes sense. :banghead:

7. We need 1000 more elected officials nationwide to do...
the same damn thing, then only the racists and the sexual perverts like O'Reilly and Limbaugh and their followers and wannabe's will be left there.
Although I am sure this is a mole, just because I have seen him posting these type of post's the last few days. If he isn't... Go **** yourself.

9. My inlaws left the repub party after Katrina...
That was the last straw they said. They were against the Iraq war and Katrina was the last straw. They call themselves independents now and are much happier about the decision.
Did they really???? Because Bush blew the levy uh?
I love to just sit back and watch these idiots fall over themselves just because someone doesn't identity with the R anymore.

Ask yourselves DUmmies, why didn't he become a democrat?
-
So some middle of the road, left coast type "moderate" liberal decides to leave the Republican Party and become an independent. Well, okay, bully for him. He didn't like the way the "game" was being played and decided to try and do things his own way; sounds like someone with a spine no matter how much I may disagree with his decision (no idea what he stands for, just saying in general).
I don't know what the DUmmies and Mr Maddow are so excited about, he didn't defect and become a leftist dem. I imagine that he's going to be a pain in the ass for both sides.
Oh well, the DUmmies will scream for his head when he doesn't do what they want, much like the howler chorus at FR screamed for Scott Brown's when a Massachusetts Republican didn't act like a hard line Southern Conservative.
-
It WOULDN'T be because he's doing something like running for mayor of San Diego, wouldn't it? Nahhhhhhh........
-
Why would the primitives support this ? The guy sounds like a Libertarian to me...
-
All this means is that some nut in the state assembly wanted to run for mayor, but can't get the Republican nomination.
-
That's the end of his bid for mayor.
I have never understood why it ALWAYS the conservatives that must compromise. Or if there are democrats that vote against a failure of a bill under 0bama along with all of the republicans it is not a bipartisan opposition? Or why when one republican votes for a failure of a bill under 0bama against all of the republicans it is bipartisan support?
Democrat/communist compromise is "Shut up and do things my way." and nothing more.

I can't believe these DUmmies can't see thru this. Damn near every politician will say damn near anything in order to get on the public dole.
If you're runnin' for any office in San Diego, ya better kiss the liberal ass or go home!
We'll see what happens after the election!
