Title: I received a 5 year award

This is kind of neat.  Another thread here was describing a 25 year award working for the same company.  I just received notification today of my 5 year award and a screen of 24 different items to choose from.  I've decided on this:

RCA Home Theater System

RCA DVD Home Theater. Five satellite speakers, subwoofer, 1 HDMI out, 1080p up-conversion, 130 watts, 5.1 sound, and multi-format audio and video playback including JPEG slideshows.

You shitting me?  That's what you get for being at your company for five years?

I basically got a piece of paper that basically said, "Thanks for not ****ing anything up."  I might have got a catalog but what I saw in it couldn't have been worth more than $25-30, tops.

Way to go!  My 5 year is next year and I get an addl week of vacation.  No prize, but maybe a certificate.

I work for the state.  I expect my 5 year award to be a salary decrease.

Thanks guys!!  I was pretty amazed too when I saw what was offered. It's supposed to arrive this Monday according to Fed Ex.

The first company I worked for out of college offered a 2 week sabbatical after your 6th year (in addition to the normal accrued vacation time) and every 3 years thereafter but this is the first place I've worked that has service awards like these every 5 years -- oh and I do get another week's vacation (3 weeks) as well.  :cheersmate:

Euph, I don't really have a current system, other than a couple of external speakers plugged into the HDTV and a dvd player so this is definitely an upgrade! I'm really psyched!  :yahoo:

Congrats to you. ma'am!  I'm hoping that you have better luck with your 5 year gift than I did with the one I got at my last job (it stopped working within days).  Credit to the company, however - they picked up the bad one and sent a replacement at no cost to me.
