The mother of slain Trayvon Martin recently filed a trademark to protect the rights to his name as an attempt to control and collect funds from the masses of merchandise being produced in support of their cause.

It was revealed today that Sabrina Fulton, the boy’s mother, filed two petitions last week to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to specifically gain the rights to the phrases ‘I Am Trayvon’ and ‘Justice For Trayvon’, both of which have been frequently used by protesters across the country.

Well, we should be grateful that she isn't banging on the gubmint's door demanding money - yet. This way, at least she can make some money and profit off her son's death in a non-confrontative way.

 :whatever:

After seeing this poor mother interviewed on tv, I personally would like to give her the benefit of the doubt, that maybe....just MAYBE...she did this trademarking, at the advice of their attorney, so that no one could profit from her son's death.

No matter what, it's looking like Trayvon Martin is going to be used as a symbol for all the white oppression and mistreatment of blacks for the last 400 years!!

Maybe her attorney suggested at least these two or three phrases to be trademarked so that her dead son's name can't be used.

If trademarking my son's name kept it from being used as someone else's rallying cry for whatever reason, I think I'd be doing it too.

Look how Tebow's name has been used for anyone getting down on one knee and saying a prayer of thanksgiving. I've heard that body position referred to as "Tebow-ing" several times in the media.

Didn't MLK's family do something similar with his name?

It's all about the easy money.

No way did I mean that his mother was going to use her son's name to make money.

I meant that she was trying to prevent anyone else from making money off of her son's name.

I agree with her on this and would have done the same thing. There are a lot of slime balls out there that will try to make money from anything.

Well, Deb, I didn't see the interview so right from the start I'm talking out of my ass.

Mrs. Grieving Mother and her Ex-Husband stood in court to put this forth. You'd think they would've been torn up with grief and were inconsolable.

Whether or not an attorney recommended trademarking a phrase, the fact is, the woman decided to use legal action in the name of money.

It doesn't look good for her. And I'm not giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Her son is taking the shape of a known hoodlum, gangsta-in-training. And he got his ass shot and killed for his trouble.

But hey -- I guess they need a new mascot. Rodney King's beating is at least 20 years old now. Time for fresh meat.  :whatever:
