Nad's spreading her vast knowledge google-fu skills.  Looks like a C&P with a little ad lib as there are to few misspellings for a post of this size.  All in all, a small fire so far.

Organ transplants.

1- There is one national registry.

2- the nation is divided into regions and range depending on the organ in question. IIRC corneas can go anywhere in the country, while lungs mostly stay in geographic areas the size of Californiam why having a jet and being on the list means nothing, while organs are transported by air ambulance regularly.

3- The wait time average for an organ is about 20 months.

4- the match is done blindly by teams. They do not know who the donor is, or the recipient.

5- at times, this is frustrating, the ideal candidate is out of region, so the organ goes to a less ideal recipient in region, aka within reach for the organ to remain viable.

6- there are always less organs than candidates.

7- The recipient will need to take a cocktail of meds for the rest of his or her natural life that at times make the patient sick to their stomach literally.

8- Even with a near perfect match there is always a chance of rejection.

9- The only way to increase the supply of organs is for you to sign your donor card, have you?

10- In spite of all the lovely conspiracy theories floating around, it s actually easier to start an Ilegal war than "jump" the system, don't care what political or economic connections you have.

Where the system breaks down actually is when states, see Az, or insurance companies refuse to pay for the surgery itself and the very expensive medication cocktail after the fact, this is why we need single payor...and even with that, the system will continue to be short of organs.

There should be plenty of hearts available in Mexico. Obama and Holder have done their part to make it so. ...a few might have a hole in them but you can't have everything you want.
