No One HERE Will Be Surprised - Study: LOW-EFFORT THOUGHT - promotes political conservatism"
The authors test the hypothesis that low-effort thought promotes political conservatism. In Study 1, alcohol intoxication was measured among bar patrons; as blood alcohol level increased, so did political conservatism (controlling for sex, education, and political identification). In Study 2, participants under cognitive load reported more conservative attitudes than their no-load counterparts. In Study 3, time pressure increased participants’ endorsement of conservative terms. In Study 4, participants considering political terms in a cursory manner endorsed conservative terms more than those asked to cogitate; an indicator of effortful thought (recognition memory) partially mediated the relationship between processing effort and conservatism. Together these data suggest that political conservatism may be a process consequence of low-effort thought; when effortful, deliberate thought is disengaged, endorsement of conservative ideology increases.

Imagine that some liberal does a study, (probably paid for by us), and concludes that conservatives be stoopid. :whatever:

1. Rush ranted on for years under the influence of drugs and his reasoning was gold to conservatives.
He often sounded like he was in the last stages of drunkenness, and his followers were just like barflies. Most of the right wing punditry talk in the same tone and make similiar remarks. Time to sober up.
Hell most of DU is hooped up on dope when they post, so I don't think you want to mention drug use.

2. My father, his wife and my brother are all alcoholics.
All the people they hang out with are also alcoholics. All of them are conservatives. I've come to the view that basically all unrecovered alcoholics are conservatives, and probably a pretty big percentage (a good minority at least) of conservatives have a drinking problem.

It appears to me the primitives indulge in NO-EFFORT THOUGHT.
-
Exactly. They come up with the knee-jerk, least-effort explanation for anything. "It's because they're RAAAAACISTS!"
Or, for a really perplexing question, "why are some black people conservative?" Their answer? "Mentally ill."

They're probably having to deal with the shame of having a DUmbass/loser for a son and brother.

Liberals do not base decisions on logic and thoughtful reasoning. They base decisions on emotions.
They're dangerously entertaining though.

1. Alcohol lowers inhibitions, thus people are more willing to speak their mind and not be intimidated by PC thought.
2. People who have a lot on their minds are more likely to be conservative, because they understand that liberalism ****s everything up.
3.Much like case 1, the lack of time to consider things, cause people to go with their core beliefs.
4. This is just a BS rehashing of the other other 3.
I don't have much of a problem with this, because it shows that at their basic level people are conservative.

They're still not talking about high unemployment, our debt, gas prices?

On Red Eye the other night Andy Levy was talking about this. He emailed one of the authors of the study and basically asked him questions along the lines of your bullet points. The author said he agreed you could come to those conclusions, especially 1 and 3.

The study is actually true and I have the proof.
EXAMPLES OF LOW-EFFORT THOUGHT ATTRIBUTED TO CONSERVATIVES:
* Illegal immigrants have broken the law by entering the country outside of its duly-enacted immigration policies
* Life is not fair and no amount of legislation can change that any more than a king can command the tides
* Two men or two women will never be able to naturally produce offspring of their own.
* Spending more money than you take in leads to bankruptcy.
* If you pay lots of money to someone to do something they are likely to continue doing it.
* Men have more upper body strength and are incapable of bearing children or lactating
* People who blow things up while chanting "Death to America" might be a national security threat
* Differences of opinion should not be criminalized in a free society
* America was established to be a free society, not a society that gives you everything for free
Admit it: you belive this shit, don't you?

Guess Liberal Loner hasn't run across the Kennedy Clan.
