Contaminated sand from the Middle East is rolling across Washington State railroad tracks. The nearly 7,000 tons of sand is from Kuwait. That's where the U.S. Military contaminated it with depleted uranium and lead. KING 5's Gary Chittim shows us the dangers this shipment carries with it.

Well, there is somewhat more to the story than that.  We did contaminate it in the first place, and agreed to move it out to keep the Kuwaitis, a critical ally, happy.  Testing WE provided and paid for said the stuff was below the threshhold for "hazardous," unfortunately it turned out OUR contractor hired a shitty lab and EPA decided it was from slightly to 2X over the 'hazardous' threshhold once it was actually sitting in a ship off the coast of Washington.
This stuff is not actually dangerous at all unless they dump it at your wellhead and leave it there for 10 years, it's in transit to a hazardous waste facility which has MUCH more dangerous Gen-you-wine American-made hazardous waste in it.

somewhat..

Basically it gets parked in a certified HAZ Waste landfill with a liner, the same as we do with the vastly-more-toxic lead paint chips and demo scrap from renovating old buildings.  This stuff would considerably dilute the rest of the waste at a HAZ Waste landfill, actually.
