On climactic change

So the other day there was a freak hail storm in Mexico City. Yes, hail has historically fallen in the city, but this one was just weird. It does not matter the mechanism, but in some areas they got 30 centimeters, in one a meter, before all was said and done.

Next day they had another one.

So I went looking. Since 1999 these freak storms have spiked.

Unlike us, Mexicans are not in denial about global climactic change. They have been living it for about two decades...floods, century storms, droughts, freak hail storms. It is not theory, it is every day life.

We are starting to live with the consequences. But by the time we collectively decide it is real, it might be beyond the point of no return. The ones I feel sorry for are my nieces and nephews, the mess they will inherit. Worst case the end of the worlders might be partially correct. Sorry guys, extinction is forever.

To speak plainly in a language some very religious people may understand...god promised not to destroy the earth by flood again. That promise has nothing about humans doing it themselves. Global climactic change is real, and potentially could be an extinction level event for apex species, which includes us.

Greed is not good, and we will not be given a last second reprieve. Those who do not help themselves...

Suffice it to say deniers are not just the very religious, those I almost get it. It is who we, very provincial, and at times not understanding the most basic of math or science, people are. (Yes, there is data on how behind we are other countries in math and science) It's hurting us, not just in competing on the world stage, but in understanding that climate is indeed changing. It's not a mild spring, that is weather. It's not a weird hail storm, that is weather...it's an increasing series of them over the decades. It is measurable data, such as increase in global surface ocean temp, and atmospheric temp. That is what climactic change is. And it is real.

Nadin

Donning my nomex.

Apparently the safeguard against falling ice is a flame resistant fabric.

So, did they get more in another meter?.... I didn't know they metered the stuff.

This could become a good thread if there are any DUmpmonkeys around with a shred of self-respect or just a tiny trace of a spine.

With the nutcase returning to her "meter of hail" nonsense, it has potential.

I doubt there's a single monkey at the DUmp who knows the difference between climactic and climatic.

Considering they've never picked up the difference between loser and looser, or they're, their, there, this one is impossible.

These are people who use apostrophes when they write "plural's".

But they instruct us on how American industry is wrecking the world's climate.

Right. Bearmanpig has given them a fleecing that dwarfs the Andyscam.

Of course mexicans buy into "climactic"[sic] change.

The whole basis for manbearpig's scam was to take money from Americans and give it to shithole countries like mexico, minus a fee for manbearpig.

I think that sentence is pretty close to a complete description of the global warming scam.

If you were a shithole country (like most of the world) you'd be a fool if you didn't totally embrace the global warming scam.

Shithole countries like mexico can smell an American dollar from miles away.

43. I'm just trying to figure out if the OP is serious.

If I take his predictions/words literally about dire consequences and doomsday then I'm disparaged. If I doubt the seriousness or inevitability of his predictions/words then I'm disparaged.

After all the OP isn't saying moderating things like climate change will be an economic burden for some and a boost for others, or will cause population patterns to shift, or that populations will have to adjust over time as has occurred in the past. Oh no. The OP jumps straight to the doomsday scenarios.

So which is it? Doomsday or not? If not, then why the fear mongering? If doomsday then how is suggesting preparing for disaster a bad thing?

Naturally this is my mistake, because we all know that Nadin is never wrong.

As you probably know: Nads is a firm supporter of OWS. This has led her to several fights with more "mainstream" DUers who would like that energy dedicated to mainstream political contests ala the Tea Party.

Nads and the other True Believers have rejected that suggestion at every turn. It would co-op and corrupt the nature of the movement, they argued. OccuPie had to be its own movement. There would be no joining mainstream politics as mainstream politics was the very thing they needed to fight.

Death to the system.

Rage against the (Vending) Machine.

All that sort of silliness.

Then, a few weeks ago, some OccuPie-ers attended a council meeting in San Diego.

Nads immediately took to the forum to excoriate her opposite numbers with cat-calls of, "See, we can join mainstream politics too!"

her combativeness and arrogance know no bounds.

Every day a new sycophant joins the chorus of those who insist on defending the misuse of 'climactic.'

They defend it by saying it is a poor translation, or that other people do it, but it appears impossible for those followers to say the words "It was wrong, she made a mistake."

If Nads were not so arrogant, she would have admitted the error and made the correction.  But where is the fun in that for the rest of us!

I nadined it and "climactic change" seems to be such a common error, it was a choice from google. I even found one article in the Nepali Times entitled Climactic change
Seen and unseen dangers as global warming thaws the Himalaya.  (http://www.nepalitimes.com/issue/393/Nation/14644)But even later in that article they use the correct word and one can easily put it off as a typo. But it still left me confused. Was it possible that this one time Nadin was correct about something?

So then, I did what I do when I am confused between certain words I Nadined "Climactic vs Climatic" and that would be easy enough even for Nadin to nadin.

Why wouldn't she have married Bill Clinton? You honestly think that relationship was about love? If she has psychic powers, she knew he was going to be Prez, ultimately allowing her to get "power". Seems to have worked out well for the lesbian. :stir:

Yeah, and now the trustee is clawing it back.
Like nearly $400 million from the guy who owns the New York Mets.
He may have to sell the ballclub to pay back the money.

As a Mets fan, you do not know how badly I want the Wilpons to have to sell the team.

Return to your normal subject . . .

One of my earliest sports memories is sneaking away from my group at the 1964 New York World's Fair to see the Amazin' Mets play at the brand-new Shea Stadium. I remember being stunned to see escalators in a stadium. I also remember Amado Samuel playing shortstop, and firing two double play balls into right field.

A schoolkid could do that back then, with good seats at maybe $5.

Also back then, a chaperone for a group of kids would simply designate a time and place for everyone to meet for the return trip the hotel. No one would panic if you disappeared for a few hours.
