Authorities in western New York say they've charged four young Amish adults with illegal possession of alcohol after their buggy collided with a police car responding to a report of a drinking party under way.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets that the crash occurred around 7:15 Sunday in the rural town of Sherman, near the Pennsylvania border in New York's southwest corner.
It's only three more paragraphs, so you'll have to go to the link. It would appear that they were the ones that were going to take the rap, as there were other buggies in the party . . .

How does a buggy crash into a cop car? Sideswipe? Didn't the cop see the turn signal from the buggy indicating a lane change?

It really sounds like a gag headline.

BSS, alcohol isn't forbidden. They're quite fond of ale, and sometimes have it for breakfast. It's considered a food.

I had thought it was. Oh well.

Mondays would be a lot more bearable at work if everyone believed this! :-)

From the link:
Police say several other buggies fled the scene.
:lmao: :rotf:
You mean to tell me the cop cars with the Interceptor engines couldn't track down a couple of freakin' BUGGIES?!? :rotf:
Seriously, the Amish are known for their "refusal" to adapt to and adopt modern technology, eschewing things like automobiles and trucks, BUT I see these guys with their straw hats and half-beards in Aldi all the time. I've seen them riding in motor vehicles, but never driving them. Seems to me their lifestyle isn't quite as backwards as perhaps we think.
Their sawmills are powered with gasoline engines -- I've heard and seen them operate.
A few years ago, Mrs E and I went into Amish-ville and tracked down a couple of Amish furniture makers. We were interested in getting a quote on having a couple of bookcases made -- nothing really fancy, just something that would stand against the wall and hold books.
The first guy quoted well over a grand for a 4' x 6' bookcase made from some hard wood other than oak (Mrs E hates oak) and the other guy managed to respond to a request for a written quote about 4 months later, long after we ordered a couple of them online.
These guys used to be fairly decent to do business with, would work hard for an honest buck, but they've become fairly cutthroat -- at least in north-central Mizz-uhr-ah.

How do you get a horse to run into something?

Maybe they got the horse drunk, too. PETA will be all over that one. :lmao:

Sounds like a job for a treehugger.
