Oh my.

Just had a weird internal job interview.
The back story:
I work 20 hours a week at a public library. My branch requires I work every Saturday, whereas every other branch in the system only requires an employee in my position to work every other Saturday. Because of that, if i worked in any other branch, I could pick up a second 20-hour a week job in the system and get 40 hours of employment. I would say at least 50% of full-time employees are "full-time" by working two 20-hour jobs.
So today I went to apply for a second job in the system. My supervisor was one of the interviewers! Basically, she attacked me for wanting a second job in the system because she would be down a worker two Saturdays a month. Remember: no other location requires employees to work every Saturday. She also disingenuously said that when she started as a librarian, she worked both days every weekend, for two years. Believe me, I do not make librarian wages; at 40 hours I will make less than 50% of her full-time librarian wages.
So I guess I'm asking:
Does this strike anyone else as strange/a conflict of interest? Does this rise to the occasion of contacting HR with my conflict of interest concern? As I understand it, HR just posts the jobs and schedules the interviews, they don't do any of the actual interviewing. That is left up to the clusters (library is divided into service clusters) to decide who does the interview.

1. Yes, it does sound like a conflict of interest.
How's your relationship with her? Can you have a frank private conversation?

2. It is weird that she does not respect your ambition
You want more out of your job and that is nothing you should be attacked for.... The worst they should do is (if they want to hire someone else) just simply hire someone else, and give you a reason why and be nice about it. Attacking you for simply responding to an internal job posting in any form is unprofessional and unproductive.
As far as contacting HR, I guess you should if she was being mean. That kind of behavior should be addressed. As far as conflict of interest, I'm not sure I understand you on that one. Her interest is on staffing the library and that does not seem to be a conflict if she is in charge of the library. Nevertheless, I support YOU 100%, if they are not offering you 40hrs at your current job.

DUmmie has a job interview...now that's weird.
Well, she's working for a bitter liberal wymin, what does she expect?

20 hours a week? Thats really rough. I work 40-50 hours a week. In this environment, any job is gold. So you work saturdays. You are working. Find a part time job that works with the schedual you have.
Geeze. I'm reading all the DUmmy employment/unemployment posts here, and you idiots are lousy employees.
Looks to me like another DUmmy will soon be out of a job.

Yep! All it's goin' to take is not bein' some little whiny bitch! I know people who would kill to have 20 hours/wk!
Besides, I don't get it. What does workin Saturdays have to do with another 20 hr job? Am I missin' sumpin'?

Dear DUmmies,
I took a couple of vacation days last week. Why, you ask? Pressing personal matters?
Nope--one of those days I brewed my first batch of Oatmeal Stout. I'll let you know how it comes out in 4-5 weeks. No, I wouldn't wish you to die of botulism or any other pesky bugs were you to brew your own beer, so I'll just drop that one there.
No, the reason I was basically compelled to take those days off is because of wonderful government regulation enacted by your heroes in the Obumbler administration which basically say I'm not allowed to work more than so many days in any rolling period, and that if I was to try to work any days between now and Memorial Day weekend, I'd have "busted out".
That's right--I have to take vacation days if I want to work Saturdays. And I'm still averaging 50-55 hours a week.
Cry me a ****ing river.

It sounds like he is being closed minded about his career options and is only considering a second job at the library, which seems to require Saturdays.

Ah, knew I musta been missin' sumpin'. You're right, if he/she/it wanted to "expand" his/her's/it's horizons, it wouldn't be a problem at all.

Not always that way, friend took advantage of company policy that would pay for their education if they kept a average. Smart girl, enrolled at UNH and worked through HR. at the job. Young, she had no problem working 2'nd shift and going to classes in the morning, 5 hours sleep a night, 10 hours of manual labor, youth, stammerer, and ambition.
Came the time she was a junior called into HR. The classes she was to attend were not approved for the company grant. Why, seems her classes were in business and the Director of HR did not want her to graduate with a degree that would threaten HER job. Hell of a mess for the kid, so she pitched a fit, and the company moved her into R&D off the humping job and she took other classes.
She graduated with a BA in something, came into work to be fired for some weird reason.
This Librarian that has problems is most likely a threat to their supervisors, better education or some such. As part time they are no threat to their supervisor, full time then they just may be able to bump the supervisor out of a job.

I just reread the op. The OP is being a whiny bitch, not a threat to a supervisor.
