TLC not bringing 'All-American Muslim' back for second season

from the Detroit Free Press:

All-American Muslim, the TLC reality-TV show based in Dearborn that ignited a national controversy, has been canceled and will not be back for a second season, the Free Press has learned.

Cast members said they were told by TLC the show didn't get high enough ratings to continue, but some said they are skeptical of that claim since the show's ratings were equal to those of many other shows.

The TV show followed the lives of five Dearborn families of Arab-American Muslims as they navigated their everyday lives negotiating their religious and American identities. From football players to police officers, the show gave a glimpse into the world of the Arab-American Muslim population of Dearborn, the highest concentration of that demographic in the U.S.

"Having the opportunity to be a part of such a groundbreaking series with TLC has been extraordinary," Suehaila Amen, one of the cast members, told the Free Press. ................(more)

Will they start a boycott?

I am shocked. I thought it had a larger viewership than MSNBC.

'As high as their other programming' isn't much of a recommendation with TLC.  It used to be good, but it's become the Springer show of educational programming.  I am not interested in fat freaks who didn't know they were preggers, asshole bitches getting married to their future domestic abuse victims, or any of the rest of the garbage that passes for programming there.

Shitty ratings is shitty ratings. More of the same thing does not make it better. Idiots.

If the ratings suck, it be perfect for Al Gore's station?

It would be a good fit with his programming, actually.

ETA - I did watch one pretty darn good documentary on Oxy trafficking in Appalachia on Current TV, I have to say.  Haven't seen anything else on its listings I'd bother to watch, though.

No shit.  You've seen one you've seen them all.  They turned so redundant with their programming. So glad to be rid of cable.

This answers the age old question about the obsolescence and demise of the Carnival Side Show.

If the DUmmies need something to watch once that show is gone they should tune into TruTV's World's DUmbest.

TLC like the History Channel is owned by the NYT.

TLC like the History Channel is owned by the NYT.

Yeah, History Channel only rarely has much of anything good, they seem to associate with a limited cadre of production companies that recycle the same stock footage from the national archives (Completely mislabelling what some of it is) again and again, with a large and unnecessary dose of modern promotional footage they got for free, and focused on the same very limited historical periods, over and over and over.  Then they fill in with reality-type stuff (Some of it like Pawn Stars pretty good, but with only a passing relationship to history).  Military channel is the same but with even more modern promo footage they got for free and equally-shaky technical information.  With anything on WWII, both are about as chock full of ideological commentary as the "Why We Fight" movies instead of just sticking to history, to boot.

I have found some great stuff on early armored vehicles and Medieval/early modern battles on YouTube, English and European programming, that beats the shit out of the pap on HC, and which they've never shown and never will.
