The OP (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002366393) is nothing but a cut and paste job of the usual socialist claptrap. btw isn't long for this world, though I fear.

1. No way I'd trust the government with our energy supply.
I'd rather pay a premium price to private industry than trust the government to maintain a steady supply at any price.

5. If the government were running it, gasoline would be a lot more expensive...
...and the supply would be unreliable. Sorry, I don't have a lot of faith in the government to do a good job from either standpoint.

9. My opinion is based on how our government operates
There are lots of things it's not good at. I don't want to add our energy supply to the list.

11. The government generally does a really good job at things.
Should it be in the oil business? I don't know. I mean the corporations are really just little governments. Their shareholders vote, etc.

balancing the budget, protecting domestic jobs, educating our kids, etc. I would not give the government high marks for any of those things and it doesn't matter whose fault it is.
Maybe I'm the problem - I expect excellence and I'm not seeing it. I don't have any reason to believe they would do a better job with producing crude and refining it.
Badtoworse then goes on to post a longish post, that makes way too much sense and is based in reality. So, it was ignored while the OP was K&R'd.

17. And then we should nationalize all the IHOPs. So we can all have tasty waffles!
followed by the DUmp's version of :mental:
PS. Is as likely to happen as the article's suggestion. (FSogol's sentence)

You want to see how well government utilities are run?
Anyone here want to regale us with tales of their life under TVA?

Most over there seem to know if we turned energy over to the gubmint we'd be screwed! Hell, look what O'Bummer has already done to coal prices, and gasoline with his ****in' over the top regulations!

We need to nationalize the energy industry
I can't imagine a faster or more complete way to totally **** it up so bad it could never be fixed.
