When should we get out of Afghanistan? (aka Giveusallofyourmoneystan)
I'd give it a week. They don't want us over there, they are a tremendous drain of OUR money, and the Talibanistan will never change for the better.

2002.

2002.
I'd also accept that, Sir!

I said "stay the course." The more of 'em killed over there, the fewer that come over here to kill us.

The real choices that make any sense boil down to that or 'blow the shit out of everything and split right afterward,' anything else is is just splitting the difference without the clear benefits of one extreme or the other. The inconstant nature of our Presidentially-driven foreign policy makes 'Staying the course' at anything which will be tough, show no immediate return, and will require more than six years an extraordinarily difficult thing for the US to pull off successfully.

You can either wage war to replace a government with one more of your liking or you can wage war to compel an enemy to abide by your policies.
We should have chosen the latter with the policy being: providing safe haven to terrorists that threaten the US is a good way to get bombed for several months and have your top dudes pwned by SpecOps.
The former is not possible without first destroying Islam, a thing which the West has no stomach to commit to until they lose a few cities.

It will happen, by and by. Not right away, but in your lifetime and probably mine.
-
Get out now.
We have a government that won't back us, support us, or treat us with respect. We are throwing our lives away for a war our own administration won't let us win.

I'd rather get the inevitable out of the way before my bunlets turn 18.
Just sayin'
Get out now.

100%, sir.
Yet, the damned fool optomist I am says hold out until a real president arrives.

What says we can't switch options now? Hand everything over to the ANSF and just say "keep it this way; don't make us come back. You won't like it"

I got to fly extensively at Holloman AFB near Alamagordo NM. Nearby is the trinity site where above ground testing of the precursors to little boy and fat man were detonated. It was eerie seeing the concentric rings of increasingly shiny, and darker glass progressing to ground zero. The darker stuff looked like obsidian from my vantage point. I don't know how much radiation remains, but as a part of our foreign policy, potential target sites should have the opportunity to send their leader over to tour the site, then be assured this is what his(her) land will look like should they continue to be un cooperative.
As for the topic, pull the troops, and swarm the area with armed drones.
