Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper Appears In Pro-Fracking Ad Sponsored By Oil & Gas Industry
I've never heard of a sitting governor appear in an industry-sponsored advertisement. Have you?
The process of hydraulic fracking, or fracking, has come under fire in recent years as it has become apparent that this gas extraction technique poses significant risks to the environment and human health. Facing increasing pressure from environmental watchdogs and community groups, the oil and gas industry has spent millions of dollars to lobby against nationwide regulations on fracking, and gave large payments to former Sen. Rick Santorum while also apparently cooperating with the Koch Brothers.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper (D) is now being prominently featured in a new radio ad promoting fracking. Remarkably, the ad is being sponsored by the Colorado Oil & Gas Association (COGA). In the spot, Hickenlooper praises the industry, the assures the safety of fracking, and boasts of a new disclosure law related to fracking:
HICKENLOOPER: This is Governor John Hickenlooper. In 2008, Colorado passed tough oil and gas rules. Since then, we have not had one instance of groundwater contamination associated with drilling and hydraulic fracking. And we plan to keep it that way. That’s why Colorado recently passed the toughest and fairest hydraulic fracturing disclosure rule in the nation. In Colorado, we’ve proven that industry and the conservation community can come together to solve problems. We can create jobs, promote energy security, and protect our environment. Brought to you by the Colorado Oil & Gas Association.

2. Worst part is he's a former geologist by training
Hate to see him be on the wrong side of science.
All science agrees with me. Anything that disagrees with me is not science.

In all honesty, I'd never heard of the term fracking until I read about it at the DUmp.
I've never read about it anyplace else.

Same here.

...and the big problem is what exactly?
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a safe and well-regulated technology that has been used for more than 60 years in more than one million wells. In the United States, an estimated 35,000 wells are drilled using fracking each year. Fracking has safely produced more than seven billion barrels of oil and 600 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and studies estimate that up to 80 percent of natural gas wells drilled in the next decade will require hydraulic fracturing technology.

I'm rather surprised that the DUmp is going after him.

Whichever one gives liberals more power over your life.

He's supporting the oil industry so it is only natural they would go after him.

I'd heard of it all my life because there was always a lot of oil well drilling going on.
But in the old days, the fracturing I heard about was very dangerous.
They'd lower containers of pure nitroglycerin down to the bottom of the well, and set it off with a dynamite cap.
It would make a tremendous explosion, much stronger than dynamite, fracturing the oil bearing rock and allowing the oil to flow to the well.
We heard tales about guys paid huge amounts back around the turn of the century to deliver nitro to the wells, using mule-drawn wagons over primitive dirt roads. The nitro was very touchy, especially in warm weather, and could be set off by a hard jolt. It apparently wasn't uncommon for those drivers to be vaporized, but if they lasted only a short while their families were left well off.
The industry changed to hydraulic fracturing decades ago, from what I heard, though I've never nadined it.

I was a acid/frac-hand--in Colorado--for Halliburton.
In 2009 the greenies slaughtered us.
Only now is CO climbing out. Hickenlooper is a sleazy dem but at least he's a sleazy dem that can smell tax revenue and jobs.

Kudos. Best reply so far imo.

Until a few years ago, whenever I heard the term 'fracking', it was immediately followed by the word 'Cylons'.
It turns out that we may have more oil (in the form of shale oil along with the oil we can't drill for) than Saudi Arabia.
And of course, those environmentalist kooks are all trying to shut fracking down so that the only thing we can use to power our cars are happy thoughts.

Fracing is the technology that has reignited the oil boom in North Dakota, The Saudi Arabia of the midwest. Also the technology Canada is using to supply oil to the Pipeline Obama put the skids to.

Fixored that for ya!
