I've been retired for over 5 years. I enjoy being a slug. The world needs slugs too. I had a desk job for the last 20 years of my employment. Slug is an appropriate description. However, my Dr. doesn't like slugs. My good cholesterol is getting bad and my bad cholesterol is getting worse. I tried to tell my Dr. that I'm a southern boy and that I fry all of my food. He's a yankee. He doesn't understand.
Who could take a perfectly good pork chop, bake it and ruin it? Yuck!!!
Well anyway, I need to get some activity in my routine so I applied for a job. Not one to get carried away, I insisted on part time. Low and behold, they called me for a phone interview. I must have baffled them with enough bullshit that I had to go in for a face to face today. I wore slacks without holes, a sweater with a sport jacket, combed my hair, put on deodorant and brushed my teeth for good measure.
After all of that work, They're going to call tomorrow for a second interview. Problem is that I shoot every Wednesday. Boys night out and all that.
Oh well.
The position is for working in the lumber section at Home Depot. No more that 30 hours per week.
Since my truck gets 10 MPG, I need a job to afford the gas to get back and forth to work.
Anyway. I'll find out more tomorrow.

So...
What do you know about lumber, being a long term desk jockey and all?
:-)
-
Good luck and all that.
You can still work on your sluggishness on your days off. :-)

Ugh... Sounds like work.
But it probably means you know how to find a 2x4.

I worked full time for 'em for over 3 years. Had to give it up because of my back. The 6 screws in my lower back didn't like me on concrete all day, doncha know.
It was a pretty good place to work, but some of their motivational meetings, and some stores have them once a month, are pretty damn flaky! Besides they have them at 6:00 am and if you work part time, you will more than likely be closing a lot!
It's a bitch when ya get my age to close at 9:00, usually have to work another hour to stock, I worked hardware, doors and windows, lumber, plumbing, then have to get up at 5:00 to go to some ****in' stupid meeting that as far as I could tell didn't motivate anyone, especially me! Generally just put me in a foul mood!
Don't know about you, but no way can I work 'til 10:00 then go home and just go to bed! I usually was still wide awake at 2 AM!
The other thing that drove me nutz is all the useless training you have to go thru. I worked construction for 30 years! Wasn't much they could teach me that I didn't know already, but you still have to sit thru the training on computer and lectures if you work in a particular department.
Usually part timers get bounced around, so even if they tell you lumber, which if I were you, I'd get away from quick, you'll prolly have to sub for people who call in sick in all kinds of departments! Totin' concrete sacks around and loading 'em, is no fun for us older guys! Leastwise not with my back!

Damn. Come 11:00 PM, I'm ready for bed.
I do have an ace in the hole. I'm on full pension and so is my wife. :-)

Hell, then take up fishin' or hikin' or somethin'! How far away is the HD anyway? my truck gets about the same mileage as yours, but HD was only 6 miles away.
Workin' the Ranch is pretty much all the exercise I can take, so givin' up HD wasn't that big a deal. Wish I made a few more bucks at it, but havin' the freedom of 160 acres is worth a few hardships.

I shoot competitively. I shoot USPSA matches every Sunday between April and November. Nothing to do in the Winter months so I get fat and lazy. I shoot on Wednesday with the boys, but that is geared more for the food after.
This is what I do, except I shoot Revolver or Single Stack.

The 6am to closing motivational meetings will continue until morale improves.

Well I gotta tell ya, they did anything but motivate my ass!
They started those ****in' things with a HD cheer! You know, give me an H, give me ano, and so on and so forth! I tried like hell to be late for the meetings so I didn't have to go thru that shit!
