My first post and it's a good-un! :yahoo:
You'll notice that one of the 'usual suspects' names is involved! :whistling:
National Basketball Association legend and prominent Democratic donor Earvin “Magic†Johnson is set to launch a new network that will be carried on Comcast Corp. cable after pressure from Democratic politicians to “diversify†cable lineups.
Johnson’s Aspire network will launch on June 30, according to the Los Angeles Times. It is the first of 10 new networks—the majority of which are owned by African-American and Latino businessmen—that Comcast will launch by 2018, per its agreement with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Justice to “diversify the cable landscape.â€
The commitment to the new networks came in 2010 as a result of pressure placed on NBCUniversal by Rep. Maxine Waters[/u] (D., Calif.) during the company’s $14 billion merger with Comcast.

I just don't get how 13% of the population can have such a hold over the rest. :???: it's still 13% right?

If (when) they are not up to par, I'm sure maxine the mouth will be demanding tax payer dollars to subsidize the fledging networks in the interest of fairness and diversity.

And here I thought I was the only one who remembered that steaming hunk of guano. Even Keef Olberturd felt better about himself when he saw those numbers.

Decades ago, when Philadelphia finally all wired up for Cable (it was held up for decades because of all the kickbacks demanded) they took the most lucrative section, naturally mostly white and working, and gave it without competition to a "Minority Set Aside". So after about 15 years of millions and millions in profits every year the owner was offered a lot of money by,i think Comcast,to buy him out.
Now it was given to him on a wonderful sweetheart dealbecause he was Black, and somebody brought that issue up, but the court decided, quickly, that he could sell it to anybody he wanted to without condition because that's how business worked.
What kinda ratings do you think M.J. is gonna get? Who wants to hear from a lowlife, promiscuous, drug user who got AIDsas a result of his choice of lifestyle? Nobody. But Comcast will have to pay him for the channel even if it's just old "Sanford and Sons" reruns.
Minority set asides are always huge losers that are so obviously phoney it makes me sick. Black holes for money that never produce what they promise.
But Michelle Obama will probably be hired as a no show Legal Consultant the day after she gets kicked out of the White House next January.

A lot of these kinds of business dealings are chronicled in the book "Shakedown" by Kenneth Timmermeyer.
Great book, if anyone ever gets a chance to read it.

I made a bad mistake here, and don't know if I can correct it. The author's name is Timmerman, not "Timmermeyer". I don't see any way to modify my original post. I am quite embarrassed, and was wrong to have the author's name posted incorrectly. Will anyone be able to help me ? Mods ?
