Obama Vows to ‘Double Down’ on Green Investments Despite Solyndra and Volt Flop
By Fred Lucas
February 23, 2012
(CNSNews.com) – Despite some green energy failures, such as the bankrupt Solyndra solar panel company and weak-selling Chevy Volt, President Barack Obama said that he wanted to “double down†on green energy spending, and would do what he could even without Congress to subsidize these companies.
Obama’s assertions, at the University of Miami on Thursday, come after numerous reports of green energy firms that received large sums of federal loans and grants but which have either declared bankruptcy or hit financial problems. In his remarks, Obama sought to draw a contrast between subsidies to green energy firms and $4 billion in tax breaks for oil and gas companies.
“A century of subsidies to the oil companies is long enough,†Obama said. “It’s time to end taxpayer giveaways to an industry that’s never been more profitable, and double-down on a clean energy industry that’s never been more promising.â€

The double down strategy carries the added advantage of paying off more of his campaign contributors.

Drilling is not the answer to high gas prices, but raising taxes on oil companies and giving tax breaks and loans to failing green energy companies is. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Michael Savage would agree with you.

I guess he doesn't remember 1979. And "record profits"? Only because you keep jacking up the price of oil, Barruh. Believe me, I have no issue with a company that makes a 10 percent profit.
But what does it say when a company (in this case Exxon-Mobil) makes $40 Billion in profit off revenues of $450 B, yet the government, which had ****-all to do with generating that revenue, collects nearly $110 Billion in taxes?

We can't afford any more "Good ideas" from Lord Dipshit and DOE Secretary Chu, it's time for the House to declare this stupidity DOA...even calling it just stupidity is giving it the benefit of the doubt, since a lot of it is really Democrat money-laundering and graft.

Since he knows his time is limited, he's gotta get it while the getting's good.
Somewhat related question: Can Congress pass a law restricting Depts of the Executive Branch (i.e. the EPA) from enacting new regulation without explicit Congressional approval?
