It was a rather odd sight: as an array of museum officials, including former first lady Laura Bush, took up shovels at the groundbreaking for the first national museum dedicated exclusively to African-American history and culture, the nation's first black president sat watching, no shovel in hand.
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended the ceremony Wednesday for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, and he delivered remarks.
“Just as the memories of our earliest days have been confined to dusty letters and faded pictures, a time will come when few people remember drinking from a colored water fountain or boarding a segregated bus,†the president said. This museum “will do more than simply keep those memories alive. …this museum should …stand as proof that the most important things in life rarely come quickly or easily.â€
When he finished and returned to his seat, a call was put out for groundbreakers to gather at the front of the stage. Obama then stood, buttoned his jacket and prepared to join in. But an official whispered something to him and he sat back down as museum officials and members of the museum's advisory council, including the former first lady, picked up shovels for the ceremonial turning of the dirt. The Obamas remained on stage.

Obama finally finds a Shovel Ready JobTM and the SCOAMF isn't willing to work.

"Oh how we loved to hear them singing when they were coming back from the fields as we sat on the south portico sipping mint juleps and taking in the sunset"...
This is precisely what they are doing here.
Reminds me of a segment of the PBS series by Ken Burns wherein a former slave is quoted as having remarked when spotting his former master among a group of Confederate prisoners being marched by "bottom rail on top now, Massa"...

No need.
I have never seen anyone so tone-deaf. Wouldn't it have been an honorable gesture for him to turn a fork in the ground? This just makes him look like an arrogant douche.
And besides, Obama is not descended from American slaves. He's a Kenyan.

Notice, though, that former First Lady Laura Bush did pick up a shovel. Ah for the good old days of having a POTUS and FLOTUS with class.

I liked this comment at Politico:
Michael Lederman · Rocky Point Junior - Senior High School
And thus the legacy of the first black president in America's history continues with that, "Cannot Do" attitude and "Not Me" behaviour that tipifys this president's attitude. He is an elitist who thinks anything he does will be lauded by the masses. His true lack of worth will be the way he is remembered.
Someone mentions gas prices, and an obamabot black lady chimes in with
Debra Winfield · Prince George's Community College
John Wonderly - your rhetoric is crazy - why would any sittng pres want higher gas prices??? who does it benefit???
And they all pile on and school her but good. People are stupid and willfully ignorant.
I noticed all the anti-obama posts have the most thumbs-up "likes."
Dave Smith · Baltimore, Maryland
Of course its not his fault, it was Bush's fault.Only this time it was Laura and not George. She stole his first shovel ready project.....
:lmao:
The comments are pretty good, if you care to go over.

Obama is to stupid to learn how use heavy equipment....and there was no white supervision on the job to jack his ass up.

I bet he has really soft hands.

I bet he has really soft hands.
And a really soft head.

I bet he has really soft hands.
Not a compliment, Just like my father in law used to say "He's a born manager".
-
I'd use my shoved to whump him in his head.

I bet he has really soft hands.
I dunno about that. Wielding a golf club as much as he does tends to develop a few callouses here and there. At least one on his right hand pinkie.
He's got a huge callous in between his ears, but that doesn't speak to his hands.
