Oh my.
This is from a primitive campfire previously posted by dane, "Nads gives up on juries."
That campfire of course has since burned out of control, covering massive terrain.

She lists the post that seems to have started it all in Reply #17, then states in Reply #72 that it was a 6-0 decision to leave it alone. In fact...
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Feb 19, 2012, 07:00 PM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.
...it was a split decision. Hardly a ganging-up-on or an indictment of the jury system if she got half the people to agree with her. What I don't understand is why there is an even number of jurors. Doesn't seem to make much sense.
I tend to agree with one of the other posters above that a high degree of snark tends to be tolerated, and is not necessarily abusive or disruptive. In fact, I fact the practice of repeatedly, continually alerting on one particular poster is more "abusive," and tends to dilute the veracity of ones alerts.

Regardless I have tried to deal with this WITHIN the system. It is clear to me it is broken, and cases of serial stalking cannot be dealt through it.
It is also clear to me that I am not wanted by at least five people, one in particular and at this point, he wins.
I hate to relieve or fear relieving HS every time I post anything and to have this person SERIALLY harras.

My point is, I don't think you are being "serially harassed." There are certain posters on DU who seem to disagree with everything I post, and dance around with word games to try and derail threads. I may consider them assholes, but if my post stands on its merits, the vast majority of DUers are generally intelligent enough to figure out who is just being a dick and who is making a serious argument. If a reply is truly offensive, usually someone else will hit alert. Unless a poster actually calls me some grossly offensive name or something, I very rarely use the alert button. I think you'd do well to back off the alert button for a while, too, and stop making yourself a target.
Fact checking and proof reading will also go a long way towards relieving your paranoia about being "stalked," as you'll most likely draw far fewer negative responses.
Nothing personal, Nadin, just my observation after seeing the type of things you alert on, and having been called to adjudicate one myself.

I'm probably not wanted here by more than 5 people.
My impression of "the system" on DU3 is that the Admins want nothing to do with this stuff anymore short of bannable offenses. There is no "forced ignore" anymore as far as I know. So does that make you right about the system being broken? Depends on how you look at it. I believed in the old system because moderators dealt with attacks in an unbiased and efficient manner.
My impression from reading your post is that there is a difference between what you view as "within the system" and what the admins view as "within the system." I think you want someone else to solve this problem. I don't think the admins want to be involved in these types of problems, but they have given you tools to deal with them. You still have other choices besides leaving. Why not put the people that make DU suck on ignore? Forget about what them and what they have to say. If you can't do that (and it makes sense to me considering I have no one on ignore), why not just not reply to the harassers? Let them say whatever they want. Anything that's really an insult will get hidden, but otherwise, don't reply.
I think DU3 is designed for this to be left up to the membership. I don't think it works as well as the mods, but it is what it is for now.

The offensive post was conveniently self-deleted last night, after I'd posted the link to it. In it, the poster replied to another's comment about the drunken and drugged condition of the woman who had tried to ram the VW Beetle, saying that he thought they were talking about Nadin.

Were I on THAT jury, it sounds like some I would have hidden. But we don't get to choose our juries, do we?
Nadin linked to and discussed the post I did adjudicate, and as I said, it was a tie. I don't often vote to lock posts unless there is some direct personal attack, threat or call-out. I think grown-ups should be able to handle themselves in an argument, and that varied opinions make for fuller, livelier discussions.
Alerting on everything is what hurts this system. What I was pointing out is that jurors HAVE agreed with Nadin, even if the majority doesn't always. That should tell her something. Maybe it's not the jury system, maybe it's being overly sensitive and over-alerting.

175. Seriously cyber bullying which is different from cyber stalking, sorry for the wrong use, is directly related to some serious shit.
I am aware of it... but it is time that DU takes it seriously for what it is. I have options... and I see one of them is to leave DU permanently and let the bullying continue with new marks. As is this is quite broken and we really are no dealing with this in an adult, I am not even going to say progressive, just adult manner.
telling people to put people on ignore is telling a kid it does not matter and kids will be kids.
So you do understand he has not crossed into cyber stalking (technical definition) which means physically threatening. But even bullying is now starting to be treated as the equivalent of verbal assault in some communities. The law is evolving on this.
But I guess my best choice will be to log off, let the bully win, and not come back.
That is the only option with bullies when a problem like this is not taken seriously. I hope he does not find a new mark, but I am betting on it.

186. Nadin, no offense, but did you read that before you hit submit?
First, telling people to put a foe on ignore isn't telling a kid that other kids don't matter. It is telling an adult (who is not confined to a school atmosphere/ecosystem) that there is a system function that allows you to 'not see' someone being an asshole to you.
Secondly, again, if you are feeling physically threatened, you need to call the local authorities. Hell, call the FBI if it helps - but no one here in H&M is going to be able to fix this for you if that is the concern.
Third, logging off does not let the "bully win", it gives you some peace of mind.
Lastly - and most importantly - what is it that you are hoping to accomplish with this? Banning of this and all future entities? Shutting down other sites?
What is your goal here?

Some anonymous person on a message board making fun of your posts is not "cyber-bullying". Cyber-bullying is when people you know try to make your real life hell by using the net as a tool to spread innuendo, libel, threats, and so forth that affect you at school, at work, in the community, etc. On an anonymous board the only threat is to your ego. If it's that fragile you can use the ignore function. Problem solved. In real cyber-bullying, ignore only hides the problem temporarily.
Nads problem is her narcissism. She believes she is infallible and so has to be universally loved. Anything less than that and she can't cope.

I swear, either her parents did her a disservice by not teaching her that children outgrow this stage, or she has some type of mental disorder. I learned the lesson early through a Brady Bunch episode. Jan was bitching that she was the middle child and was treated differently. The Brady parents oohed and aahed over her, so I thought I'd try it out on my parents. My mom just laughed in my face. She did me a favor that day.
