Cookies that keep well
It's nice to have a semi-sweet nosh in the house. I don't bake very often. I need a recipe for a cookie that stores well. Something durable and not too sweet to dunk in my afternoon cuppa. I already make biscotti. I'd like to try something new. Flavors like orange, anise and ginger would be a plus. Any ideas?

1. I never have that problem
We never have cookies last long enough to worry about them needing to "keep". With three daughters (only one lives with us) and two grandsons (one one of which can eat cookies)... I don't anticipate cookies lasting longer than it takes to get them off the cookie sheet.
Sorry... I know that doesn't help much with your recipe request, but thought I'd explain why I don't really know.

3. how about a shortbread?
Easy to make, stores very well, and you can jazz it up. I made some orange-ginger shortbread for my aunties at Christmas and it was well received.

4. may I suggest that you look for some old European recipes?
Something like lebkuchen or springerle or pfefferneuse would provide spice and storability.

This inspired me to check something out.
Things "keep" forever if kept in the refrigerator.
There's an opened package of Oreo cookies in the refrigerator here, and I tried a couple of them.
Fresh as daisies, those Oreo cookies.
Then I checked the paper label attached to the cellophane wrap.
They expired in April......April of 2003.
As one might guess, I'm not a big fan of Oreo cookies, but trust me, these were still as fresh as brand-new.
That's all one has to do; store them in the refrigerator.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, AR. Hell, even if I was the only one eating them, a package of Oreos wouldn't last a week in my household. But, since my wife rations them out to The Heiress, I make very sure to discipline myself to one Oreo (not our cat, either) every two days.

Hell franc, I used to work outa town 8 months a year and lived by myself. Oreos and Chips ahoy were my lunch and dinner sometimes. Granted, I was usually gettin' up in the middle of the night after a night of bar hoppin' with my crew, but they still would never last more than a month!
