DU fundraising for Omaha Steve matching donation this weekend

The DU alone has raised $263 (before small fees by PayPal) for my run for Bellevue City Council Ward I.

There are now FOUR candidates for my ward. I'm the only Democrat that has filed. Unless a fake Dem (like has happened in Wisconsin etc.) files, I am now assured to get past the primary in May.

A very generous individual has pledged an up to $250 match for every dollar I raise through midnight Sunday via PayPal.

Secure donation by PayPal: http://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_flow&SESSION=KKcZim7ycdGQp6n9J60fb-RPKclJAebU8yZsHKi55xsFSoeGaZ_t8pm2irm&dispatch=5885d80a13c0db1f8e263663d3faee8d43b1bb6ca6ed6d454adc375ba2d28b99

I know this is a leap of faith since my #1 issue is under wraps until April. Also my web site isn't up, but will be by the April Ne. caucus

Even $5 helps more than you can imagine. It will be put to good use.

My local fundraiser is in April btw at Bear's Bar in Historic Olde Towne Bellevue, the heart of my ward.

Omaha Steve

Up to 250.00. LOL Big time, big money politics.

Oh the irony.

Tucker, I didn't see that you had started a thread on this already.  Mods please combine.

Skimmer himself showed up to the thread, but alas it wasn't to donate, just to slap a DUmmie.

5. DU3 does have a bookmark feature.

It's a button at the bottom of the OP.

Click "My Account" to see your saved bookmarks. There is a bookmarks tab in there.

Steve waited until the graveyard shift was stirring about before posting his plea in order to snag everybody. It's been an hour since the last reply.

His "alms for the poor" request is sinking like a rock.

Bit by bit we are learning more: Steve will have a website up in April.

Hey Steve! Start a comments section! or a little forum. Give and take with your constituents.
Issue a press release for free publicity--they will post it for free in the papers and on the radio.

The idea that you have a forum will be unique and allow direct communication that everyone can see.
If you win, you can keep it as a link to the people.

It's Febuary 18th and he's waiting till April to announce  his platform? If anything is true in politics its the person that gets the word out first that at leasat has the best chance on getting to the end on any platform, you don't sit on your ass and hope for the best. A frackin war could break out in March in the Middle Eaast and the last thing talked about in the news cycle will be OmahaSteves stance on Gradmas Gone Wild.

Would there be a way to volunteer to contribute to lib causes, and candidates, that referred potential fundraising entities to a website that gave them a good long huge runaround, and in the end netted them nothing ? An added bonus would be their time would be just wasted, and not used to waste others.

That's what bothers me about this whole deal.

The big guy's trying to raise money before he announces his platform.

Talk about putting the cart in front of the horse.

Which leads me to believe he can't possibly be serious.  No way.  He's acting as if he's running for vice-president of the junior class in high school or something.

I suspect he's a token candidate, much like how Republicans run token candidates in hopelessly blue districts elsewhere.....or how Democrats in Nebraska have of late had to run homeless guys for governor, senator, whatnot.

Just to be sure there's a (D) on the ballot, nothing more.

Yep. Thats why I think this is another Andyscam.

Why the concern about money before one has something to sell?

Okay.  So franksolich decides to run for office.  Say, county surveyor for Knox County, Nebraska.

It's a good-paying job, too.

So everybody send me money.

What's wrong with this picture?

Might it be because nobody has any idea of what franksolich proposes to do as county surveyor?

Maybe after franksolich raises some money and gets around to telling the voting public what he proposes to do, some of those who donated money might not like it.

This is not going to end well.  For my fellow Nebraskan, that is.

Well, I checked out the campfire on Skins's island; it's not burning well.

Ninety-nine views and sixteen comments, if I recall correctly.

Probably the big guy should announce what he's selling (i.e., his campaign platform) before he asks for money.

I wonder if OmahaSteve will end up changing his SN to StatePrisonSteve or FederalPrsionSteve if it's found out that he has violated the election laws by getting funding from people that shouldn't have donated to his little cause? No platform and nothing more then putting in paperwork to run doesn't sound like he's serious about getting into office and showing the people what he is about. Never mind the fact that from what we have seen of his post at DU that any of it is a losing proposition in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Gang, IIRC, he himself has said that, being a socialist in deep-red Nebraska, he has to be somewhat deceptive.  He's entirely in character for the primitives.  Not so for deep-red Nebraska, but this is all he knows how to do.  Definitely not this.

You mean like felons?   foreigners?

You will note the generous chap who offered to match $250 in donations - anything more than that would require full disclosure on the donor.

His opponent has a great deal to question here.

DU has raised $598 & $250 match in 6 days for Omaha Steve for Bellevue, Ne City Council!!!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Here is the post for the matching funds yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002325590

This is some much needed seed money. I am humbled at the generosity of the DU on a leap of faith like this.

My local account has a balance of $473.43. My only expense so far has been the $110 filing fee. This is some much appreciated seed money.

A few people have sent private mail that come pay day they would be in.

The cemetery donation link will be permanent: http://www.steveandmarta.com/graveyards/bellevue/bellevue_1.htm

Eleven different states. A few with multiple donations. NY, TX, CA, IN, NE, IA, FL, GA, IL, MI, and AK.

I never expected this kind of support.

Warmest regards,

Omaha Steve

It seems Frank was correct. Omaha Ed Norton had the DUmmies pay his filling fee.

Dunmy math

Donations: 598 +250= 848

Expenses: 110

Balance: 473.43

For the big guy to have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning in red Bellevue, he has to support:

(a) smaller government
(b) lower taxes
(c) the Second Amendment
(d) reining in the public-sector labor unions

It's going to be interesting to watch how he does that.

By the way, the one Democrat running without (thus far) any Democrat or Republican opponent for the Bellevue City Council is, I believe, a former state senator.  I haven't looked it up, but I think he is.  Don somebody.

Different district from the big guy.

If memory serves me correctly, he's a Democrat the primitives wouldn't like, somewhat to the right of current U.S. Senator Ben Nelson; in other words, the only sort of Democrat who could win in Bellevue.
Title: Re: Omaha's Ed Norton is having a matching fundraiser weekend

Well, it looks as if my fellow Nebraskan's got enough to buy a ten-second radio spot, but some of those might be pledges and not cash-in-hand yet, meaning he actually might only have enough for a roll of postage stamps.

I dunno.

Now, as long as Omaha Steve tells the voters of Bellevue the same things he's told the primitives on Skins's island, he'll have no trouble from this side, and we'd applaud his honesty.

But if the big guy has told the primitives one thing, and then tells the voters of Bellevue another thing, well, that might mess things up.....

You mean like felons?   foreigners?

You will note the generous chap who offered to match $250 in donations - anything more than that would require full disclosure on the donor.

His opponent has a great deal to question here.

I think the big guy should be a little, uh, cautious about giving his fund-raising totals.

As we already know, some of those dollars are real, already passed on to him, and others are just "promised" or "pledged."

Say my fellow Nebraskan says he has a hundred bucks.

We know he's got fifty in the bank, and fifty in primitive promises.

But he insists he has a hundred bucks.

Nebraska law requires that campaign financing report actual dollars gotten.  One doesn't report promised dollars, dollars one hasn't actually gotten yet.

So Omaha's Ed Norton blabs to the world that he has a hundred bucks.

But on his campaign financing report, he puts down the fifty actually gotten, as required by law.

But he said he got a hundred bucks.....

And so that's a second thing to watch here; to ensure that Chief Big Bucks reports to the state of Nebraska the same amounts he reports to the primitives.  If he tells the primitives he's got a hundred bucks, he better tell the bureaucrats in Lincoln he's got a hundred bucks, too.

He's not going to listen to franksolich, but if I were the big guy, I'd report to the primitives only the amounts he actually got, rather than including the promised pledges.

Nothing. He's a democrat.

Damn.  I just checked my calendar.

I was hoping the big guy would do some "live blogging" from the bar the night of his fund-raiser, and I could sit around home here, spectating.

Well, he might do that, but I won't be able to see it.

That afternoon, I'm scheduled to visit a friend in Murray, Nebraska, and won't get back up here in time to watch the "live blogging."

Damn.
