Ok quandary time

The tough works fine with occupy. In fact, taking anything more pricey, even with press credentials, is just nuts. But here is the question, the tough 610 has some very real limits. We have a Nikon rig, a pretty good rig, with nice lenses. I am thinking putting money away for a Nikon 1 V or an entry level DSLR. No, I don't want to take hubby's toy! I also have not done any serious photography in a long time. The Nikon 1 is still nice and compact, but of that class of camera is not the best. The Sony are...and while the Nikon 1 could use the lenses, it needs an adaptor and in classic Nikon fashion flash shoe is custom...but it is fast and can record both video and stills, which hubby's older Nikon rig can't.

So adaptor and new flash and all that puts us well within the price of a mid range camera with lens. But just getting the body we already have lenses and standard flash. We could save a little money...

But the Nikon 1 is compact, which can be important when shooting in the streets. It is also really fast in image acquisition, again important is a few situations.

Suffice it to say, will still carry the tough 610 as backup, primary for occupy or raining cats and dogs. No, water proofing cameras is not cheap, though the Nikon I the easiest, followed by the Sony mirror less systems.

By the way I have been reading reviews and the whole class of mirror less cameras is a whole revelation to me.

Suffice it to say, I do futz with the settings on the camera, but when shooting action, or convention photos it is mostly in full auto...there is an actual limit of how many tasks I can carry out at the same time, and only have two hands.

 :cheersmate:

We found the flaw in Supperman's plans.

Seriously, a used SLR with a 50mm lens is a good all-around camera if you bother to learn how to use it.

I've seen some of her pics.

I can do a better job with my Canon SX130 PowerShot, and the only thing I'm proficient at doing with it is turning it on!

Got it for $200 on sale at Walmart Christmas 2010, including the 4GB SD memory chip.

I have a Kodak "Brownie" from 1962.

But I've never used it; it'd belonged to an older sister.

Me, I use those $5 disposable cameras one buys at convenience stores when I need to take a picture of something.

I'd match my talent up against nadin's any time.  It's not the equipment, but the handling.

Frank, you really, REALLY should never use "handling" and "equipment" in any thread involving nads.   :lmao:

The mental images are just too disturbing.

DH was a biomedical photographer and is still shaking his head at her 'good rig'. :loser:

I didn't think nadin had any limits besides Kryptonite.

I take better pictures with my cellphone than Nads is capable of with an actual camera. Getting an expensive DSLR isn't going to help her at all.

I took an awesome picture of the sunset during the company picnic at our local park, with just my iPhone 3Gs.

Ok quandary time grab some quarters, we're going to the quandry mat

The tough works fine with occupy. say what? In fact, taking anything more pricey, even with press credentials, *snort* is just nuts. But here is the question, the tough 610 Just a normal point-n-shoot has some very real limits. We have a Nikon rig, a pretty good rig, with nice lenses. got a feeling it's a film camera I am thinking putting money away for a Nikon 1 V ILC type camera or an entry level DSLR. No, I don't want to take hubby's toy!please rephrase that I also have not done any serious photography in a long time. The Nikon 1 is still nice and compact, but of that class of camera is not the best. The Sony are...and while the Nikon 1 could use the lenses, it needs an adaptor and in classic Nikon fashion flash shoe is custom...but it is fast and can record both video and stills, which hubby's older Nikon rig can't. yup, it's a film camera

So adaptor and new flash and all that puts us well within the price of a mid range camera with lens. But just getting the body we already have lenses and standard flash. We could save a little money...

Suffice it to say, yay, take another I do futz with the settings on the camera, but when shooting action, or convention photos it is mostly in full auto...there is an actual limit of how many tasks I can carry which is precisely, one out at the same time, and only have two hands. takes only two fingers to rotate the mode dial.
Never ending comedy.
Where did her supperdupper underwater wonder camera go to?
You know, the one that caused a major media stampede for camera batteries? :rotf:

Nads, listen deary.
Skip the ILC type and just buy an entry level DSLR.
You'll have a better "rig", and it'll actually save you money.

Oh goodness, Nadin.  Just use a cell phone, you can upload all of your crunchy pictures to Facebook immediately.  You wouldn't have to be bothered with the pesky task of uploading when you get home.

Only if yer mind is in the gutter Diesel! Only if yer mind is in the gutter!

'Course, mine stays there, so I know the feelin'!

I can't believe anyone uses a film camera anymore. I have an old one, but it's such a hassle, it hasn't been outa the box in 12 years! Ya ever watch those pawn shop shows on TV? Ya can't give the things away!

Suffice it to say, she should do like Frank and buy the disposable rigs.

NadaBrain is disposable as far as I'm concerned. She and the camera could be thrown in the same DUmpster!

In one post Nads of Arc refers to "...hubby's kit...", and alternately to various "rigs".  Is this actual 'photographer jargon', or more Nadinese?

Not being a photographer myself, I really don't know.  Inquiring minds, and all that.

I've never heard a photographer call their camera a "rig".  The only thing described as a rig is my dad's semi truck.

It's either more nadinese or someone who turned in their cool card in the 70s. :lmao:

OMG.  I never realized the battery stampede was for the Olympus Tough 610.  I got a Tough 6020, which is basically last year's version of the 610, with a spare battery.  The 610 uses the same battery.  I probably could have retired, if I sold at the height of the battery market.

The fact that anyone with a cheap disposable camera can do a far better job then she can should be her first clus about her lack of talent. Nads is one person with no brains,no talent and not one decent thing about her and yet she keeps hounding the DUmp with her crunchy news. Talk about being bullied.

Does she profess to be some kind of reporter? If that's the case, isn't it better to be a little more pleasing to look at so as to get thru certain doors? No wonder she still has an SLR! She couldn't afford anythin' else!

One would hink so AR. "Pleasing to look" at is definatly not associated with Nadinenobrains, nor is her personality

You have to go back and do it again, cause you just can't believe it was that bad. :puke:

You can only go back and look again if, and only if, your sinuses are completely blocked--thus rendering your olfactory sense useless.

I really want to meet Nads and have my picture taken next to her with her good rig.  I will tell her I am some kind of celebrity and she can do a crunchy interview with me to share on DU.  It would make for a couple of hours of entertainment, I am sure.
