Can't help you, Doc. I never even saw it, much less used it.

me

OK......then I need  a favor......here's what I'd like to do......

I have a "family portrait" of our (grown) children, and grandkids, which was professionaly done about a year ago.

Since that time we have a new grandchild.  Since our kids are flung to hell and back all over the country, and the likelyhood of getting them all together for another photo is slim and none, I'd like to send someone a high resolution scan of the portrait, along with photos of the new baby, and have someone that knows how to do it, insert the babys image into the group portrait.......then return the new image to me for printing on a photo printer.

Is this doable, or even practical??

it depends on the two pics. lighting and camera angles all that jazz can make it hard to blend the two

i'll try my best send them in a pm

plus how big you do plan on printing them? 8X10? becasue the bigger the more revealing it will be.

The finished image will be in a 5 x 7 frame, and I have a selection of different images of the new baby......you can select from them the one that fits from a lighting and camera angle perspective.

How high resolution should I make the scan of the portrait  photo?  Of course the higher rez, the larger the file will be.  Also its hard to attach an image to a PM without a photobucket account (which I don't have), so if you can PM me an email address I'll attach them to that.

usually a scanner will scan high enough. most have 1200dpi or more

i would think anything over 400 dpi should be enough though
but the more the merrier

I sent you a preliminary 300 dpi scan, and my scanner will go up to 7200 dpi, but just scanning at that resolution will likely take all afternoon, and create a 1 GB file, so I'll do one at around 700 and see how it goes.

Rugnuts, If you wish to display your work, and have a Photobucket (or similiar) account, you can post that photo in the "Reflections from the Sandhills" forum (limited access).

After doing so, I'll edit the post to explain both what you did, and who the subjects of the shot actually are.

I'm amazed at the result......it's far better than I expected.

Thank you so much for the effort and time!!

rugnuts, can you teach me?

do you have PS? which version?
what would you want to learn?

i "acquired" Photoshop 7.0 in 2005. i have been self exploring it for 7 years now with no formal training, just internet tutorials for ideas. I upgraded to CS but switched back 7.0 because of imageready (a sister program i use for animated gifs) While i understand what i am trying to do in PS, i dont know how to explain things the best. It has always been my downfall in life. i learn quickly, enjoy absorbing general knowledge of everything and understand how things work but for the life of me i cant teach for shit.

to be honest, it might be easier for me to just do whatever you want done in photoshop.
