Title: Facebook
Post by: CG6468 on February 15, 2012, 12:56:32 PM
I hardly ever use my Facebook account and have been considering canceling it. I've heard some bad things about them violating personal security.

Now this:

I do not post my picture, or any real personal information on Facebook. I cannot believe the number of people who post every time they take a dump....

I don't care who knows what I look like........

...or who I am, where I've been, or what I've done...

...but the closest I'll ever get to "social networking" on the Internet are the conservative boards I post on. Things like Facebook are for the stupid. Let others fret or kill themselves and others over presumed personal insults.

I do have pictures of me posted up on Facebook, but I RARELY use them as profile pics, and then only briefly.

Also it is a safe bet that not everything I have posted in my profile info is "accurate".  I'll leave it to the gub'mint data mining software to determine where I'm telling the truth and where I'm bullshitting.

Finally, I keep personal references to my politics, religious beliefs and any causes I may or may not affiliate with deliberately vague, and I NEVER, EVER click <like> on whatever cause du jour is floating around on the wall.  Facebook is also not a place to find me discussing topics which may compromise SHTF/EOTWAWKI OPSEC.  Again, I'll leave it to the data miners to figure out what I might have and what I don't and where I might be when the jackboots start goose-stepping and the men in black start knockin'.

All I can say is that Uncle Sam is welcome to read all our "Happy Birthday," "Happy Valentine's Day, "Happy ________" messages to each other, read our very interesting "Will be home in 2 hours, have to shop WM on the way," IM's, and look at all our baby pics, dog pics, puppy pics, camping pics, and the drawings of dragons and owls my daughter does.  I hope he enjoys them, but suspect they'll probably put the poor "spy" to sleep.

Yeah, pretty much all of the above.   It is a rare occurrence that my status isn't "meh" or "coffee".  I don't even know if I even have a status.

I do my best to be snarky on FB -- I don't take too much seriously at all, even when the Libs are attacking.

(I have a lotta lib friends, as misguided as they are.)

It's unbelievable, to me, how many people actually post their birthdays. That's just begging for identity theft.

I sponsor one "Group" but don't spend a lot of time on it or any other page. Another group I subscribe to has so much traffic I had to shut off notifications. Good God, people, get a freakin' life.  :lmao:

I took my page down this fall -- someone hacked into it and started sending messages out to a few people on my friends list so I shut it down fast  :hammer:

Every month I change my password.  I imagine that hackers really don't like me, because none of the passwords "make sense", so to speak.

It's a good, useful tool, so long as you go into it with the proper mindset: that being that posting - sometimes critical - pieces of your life on a web page, and "privacy" are mutually contradictory to begin with.
