My political donation account for my run for city council is now active at PayPal

Several DUers have been asking when I would start raising funds in my run for the Bellevue (Ne) City Council in Ward I.

I know that some will be saying I ask for free stuff and you will get nothing. Most of you know by now who they are. I guess this is your chance to show that crowd what you think of them.

Today is the first day of accepting donations. I got my first pledge an hour after the account was activated.

Make a secure contribution using your credit card or checking account to STEVEN DAWES FOR CITY COUNCIL

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=CXRZ2GMTQES8A

PM me if you prefer to donate by mail.

My web site and info won't go online until late March.

Um, Stevieboy, pledges aren't money in the bank.
March, is it?  Just in time for the big "April surprise".

6. You could turn this into a challenge

Last year I sent out an email asking for one dollar to Planned Parenthood for every yes vote in the legislature on a nasty anti-choice bill. I had 10 friends take me up on the challenge and we raised over $1000 for Planned Parenthood.

You should ask for $5 for every mention of you or your candidacy by that cave dwelling crowd. Put them to work raising money for you.

More fools and monies soon to part.   :lmao:

He's got $198 so far, I don't know how much of that is cold hard cash or "pledges."   A hardcore, committed Socialist running for office in Nebraska.  That's the ticket.

That's fairly easy.
First word is always "Chief". :-)

My fellow Nebraskan's doing this assbackwards, putting the cart before the horse, raising money from the primitives before he tells the primitives his campaign promises.

And so we get

Quote
A pig in a poke

Meaning
An offering or deal that is foolishly accepted without being examined first.

Origin
'Don't buy a pig in a poke' might seem odd and archaic language. It's true that the phrase is very old, but actually it can be taken quite literally and remains good advice.

The advice being given is 'don't buy a pig until you have seen it'. This is enshrined in British commercial law as 'caveat emptor' - Latin for 'let the buyer beware'. This remains the guiding principle of commerce in many countries and, in essence, supports the view that if you buy something you take responsibility to make sure it is what you intended to buy.

A pig in a pokeA poke is a sack or bag. It has a French origin as 'poque' and, like several other French words, its a diminutive is formed by adding 'ette' or 'et' - hence 'pocket' began life with the meaning 'small bag'. Poke is still in use in several English-speaking countries, notably Scotland and USA, and describes just the sort of bag that would be useful for carrying a piglet to market.

A pig that's in a poke might turn out to be no pig at all. If a merchant tried to cheat by substituting a lower value animal, the trick could be uncovered by letting the cat out of the bag. Many other European languages have a version of this phrase - most of them translating into English as a warning not to 'buy a cat in a bag'. The advice has stood the test of time and people have been repeating it in one form or the other for getting on for five hundred years, maybe longer.

Fraser's Magazine, 1858, reprinted a piece from Richard Hill's (or Hilles') Common-place Book, 1530, which gave this advice to market traders:

"When ye proffer the pigge open the poke."

John Heywood included something nearer to our modern-day version of the phrase in Proverbes and Epigrammes, 1555-60:

I will neuer bye the pyg in the poke :
Thers many a foule pyg in a feyre cloke.

See also: 'let the cat out of the bag'.

I wonder how the people that run elections in Nebraska think of outside donations to OmahaSteves election. I have my doubts about how many of those DUmpmonkies actually live in nebraska let alone in Bellevue. I'm sure that this is all going to be transparent right Steve?

Uh huh.

My fellow Nebraskan's forgotten that little detail.

Because so much "outside money" pours into Nebraska, Nebraskans tend to resent it, and it usually becomes a campaign issue.

However, I'm sure those more professional in such things than us, are looking at that too,

By the way, I like Freeper's suggestion on another Omaha Steve thread that people donate one cent via PayPal to the cause.  Every penny helps.

Omaha Steve Stars in:
ANDYSCAM II

You saw and Inconvienient Truth. You Saw Farenhite 9-11 and loved it.
You cried when you really weren't $10 dollars away from victory.
You looked the other way when Andy refused FREE socialist health care for the best capitalist care available.
You raged when CC laughed at yet another scam to come your way.

Now drop your donations in the new vacation fund...ground breaking victory fund for our guy Steve, as proud socialists take a city council by storm!

SEE Steve not knocking on any doors.
Learn of the devastating information Steve has on his incumbant.
SEE Steve's shock when CC letters start pouring into the editors inboxes of local newspapers.
SEE the Occupiers poop with joy when Steve addresses them.

See all this and more at your nearby theatre coming this fall!

Anxiously awaiting the next quarter's campaign finance reports on this PAC.

My biggest fear--because we'd lose out on a great deal of merriment--is that my fellow Nebraskan will turn out that rare museum-piece rarity, an honest Democrat who says what he really means.

He might actually put out bumper-stickers, "I'VE ALWAYS BEEN FOR SOCIALISM"--Steve Dawes.

Or "REPEAL THE SECOND AMENDMENT"--Steve Dawes.

Or "HIGHER TAXES MORE GOVERNMENT"--Steve Dawes.

Or "MORE POWER TO THE PUBLIC-SECTOR UNIONS"--Steve Dawes.

In that case, since he would be telling the voters of Bellevue the same things he tells the primitives on Skins's island, one can't fault him.  He's being honest.

There'd be merriment in it only if he were to tell the primitives one thing, and to tell the voters a wholly opposite thing.

It's not going to end well for the big guy in either case.

No it is not, and this paypal link absent of a website and the mandatory securing of appropriate donor information translate into campaign finance charges and other such goodness for years to come.

I still think it's funny that Pritchett wants DUmmies to donate to Steve whenever the Cave mentions his name.  DUmmies don't have that much sofa spare change, would not benefit from Steve's victory, and it hurts the Cave not in the least.  To this he reflexively says "great idea!"

Just what one wants in their city councilman.  He would vote for whatever cockamamie idea came from anyone who had a D beside their name, just because.

Let's see now. He will send a personal thank you letter to each donor. That's 253 letters, using a 45 cent stamp would be about 114.00.

Hey Steve. Don't spend all of the donations. Better yet, wait until you win and then send them on the public's dime.

I dunno for sure if he was mausoleumed--if that's done on the new DU--but all of his campfires got hidden by jury decisions.  franksolich jr. needs to work on honing his skills at jury-tampering.
