My smelly valentine: Sewage treatment plant offers tours
If you rea
lly want to show that special someone how much your care about her this Valentine’s Day, take her to see some sewage.
On this Valentine’s Day, one of the more unorthodox activities available to lovebirds is the ability to take that special someone for a tour of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection is offering a tour of the sewage treatment facility that lasts just under two hours and culminates in an expansive view of the Manhattan skyline and the 53-acre Newtown plant from 130 feet up.

For the record, have been covering some real hard core news, but will be posted all over facebook and twitter, not here.
SO if you really want to know what happened this weekend in san diego, of quite possibly national importance, just not here.
And a few of the hard core party loyalists would be jealous as well.
A little tough love... suffice it to say what I watched last night (as an observer) did not shock me or come as a great surprise.
Sometimes observers can see dynamics that you can't if you are in the middle of it, so take this as something coming from somebody who WANTS you to succeed and believes in the prize, but who for professional reasons cannot get involved more beyond coverage. (And trust me, last night was a doozie that goes into my notes of the history of Occupy, if I wanted to do real damage, it could easily be a news story)
First I have observed dysfunction ongoing and increasing for at least two months. When PROCESS was readopted, I went hooray... now that will be productive, FINALLY. So last night was truly the end result of that. Lord knows bringing somebody to watch a GA who'd never seen one in the flesh, that was NOT a good one to introduce a person to the process.
Second, you have an internal war going, and several groups who want to take over for whatever their perceived goals or objectives are. Some are 180 from each other. This is clear to anybody who is a careful observer. I have come to dub this the OSD civil war. Yes, you are at war with yourselves. This has been ongoing for at least three months.
Third, you do have infiltrators, that is a given, does the sun rise in the east? Is water wet? Occupy is a challenge to the power structure... so lucky duckies, you are not paranoid, but I can bet it is none of who you suspect. That be very, and I mean very... beginner level. The way you deal with this is the way that you deal with any of this shit... you just do your shtick...
Fourth, the Democratic party does want, and has wanted to co-opt the Occupy Movement... partly they have crashed against that sea wall since, like their counterparts in the Republican Party, they don't get it... But they do have a case of Tea Party Envy, which was co-opted this fast. So to see ongoing efforts at this, bumbling as they are, is not surprising. At this moment, lucky that you are, they are mostly over at the national level and they are starting to react to the pressure from the streets by actually starting to FOLLOW the streets, but yes, locally at multiple places you have continuing efforts... and they will continue to succeed, as they have... which is not at all.
Now due to the OSD wars I have come to learn a few things that are all but the purview of an external observer. Since I want you to succeed they are going into my academic notes... and I get that this happens to ALL social movements.
What you do with this information, is up to you. But what happened last night can either be a tonic... you do have some serious issues, and help you deal with them... or it might be lethal.
What I would personally do is look inside of yourselves and ask yourselves what do you want? As is, more tough love, Occupy is NOT just Occupy San Diego... and it may need to happen that your really active members find their way to other occupations in this town and to the next phase... which does not include physical occupations and requires what will be at least a five year marathon... and that is a hopeful prospect, it could very well be a lifetime effort.
I am not going to tell you how to solve this... it is not my purview. I am passing this as a friend, who's seen things that fit a certain historic pattern. But the choice that Labor had to make regarding the Anarcho Syndicalist, or MLK regarding Malcolm X, well, you are there. This happens every time with social justice movements.
I know I will keep my eye on this, and HOPE you overcome it... but suffice it to say, you are doing to yourselves what city leadership has not been able to do...

Well a certain place can't handle anything serious whatsoever. So from now on team sports (politics), Pom Pom items, (same deal) and crunchy non filling "news."

Don Heldenbrand It's just my opinion, but I think that certain website sold it's soul. That is why no dissent is allowed. That is why they don't need to do a fund drive.

Nadin Brzezinski I don't know if quite selling soul applies.
I honestly think we have a very vocal group that hijacked it. They have been allowed to do things for years and at this point it's like FR.
As to funding, they still need it, just changed how they go about it.
But what you are seeing is classic cult of personality.

Skimmer doesn't read the DUmp anymore, and could care less what's being posted. That's exactly what DU3 was planned for. It frees up SKinner from babysitting the lunatics and still preserves his cash flow.
He lets the liquidation teams and the juries take care of disciplining the DUmpmonkeys.
Skimmer just counts cash and enjoys the high life. The new Dump is a bonanza.

we all might be better off if you stick to "crunchy" fun stuff.

Thanks to you and your demands for non (crunchy) news, we don't get to hear about hard core news that could be breaking nationally any second now!
Thanks!

I'll go sit in the corner now
She was at the California democrat convention. Lots of crunchy fruits and nuts there, I'll bet.
For some reason, I thought she was covering the courtship of the whales on the beach out there.
B I N G O and worthy of several H5s.

Thank you, sir--I was trying to remember what nadin was covering this weekend.

Rosie O'Donnell was at the beach?
That would explain the tremors felt here in the East.
It's a pretty obscure news story, the California Democrat convention in San Diego this weekend; all I've seen about it is that Al Franken spoke at it, nothing more than that.
I'm waiting for nadin's description of this historic event.

21. Here is a clue for ya, unless SOMEBODY else posts
them, you will NOT get them here.
As far as this site, and it is due to people like you, even coverage of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY does not belong here.
So you can wait for it to be on CNN's The Situation Room with Wolf, or perhaps some Judith Miller.
You got your wish... be happy. No news for you, just stupid shit.

Nice attack strategy. There's plenty of news here, most of it from reliable sources. I like that.
"People like you"....indeed. It's people like us who are checking stories out after the fact and finding the flaws that should have been corrected before publication.
Have a nice day. BTW, I did subscribe to your Facebook thingy, so your "hardcore" news will show up in my feed. Who knows? Maybe I'll post it here after verifying the information.

23. I see, this morning, in my Facebook feed,
that your news concerns an Occupy gathering at the Democratic Convention in your area. I'll read your report when it appears. My question: were you credentialed to be inside where the Democrats were making news, or did you just cover the Occupy thing outside? Nice photo of the guy in the mask, but I'd be more interested in what was said inside the hotel. I hope you'll have some coverage from the actual event, instead of just reports on the Occupy protests.
BTW, PM me if you want some tips on getting press credentials for things like this. It's good to get inside and talk with other journalists and interview the people who are actual convention delegates. There are some genuinely crunchy stories at such events, if you're inside and have press credentials.

28. OK. Yes, I will see.
If there's anything of value there, I may post it here. If not, I won't.
Here's a pretty good story on the Convention:
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-democrats-20120212,0,2001615.story
It didn't really address the Occupy protest outside, though, but it has lots of info from inside where things are happening. It might be a good backgrounder for you.

If Al Franken was there, then it was a "comedy", not a convention. I use both terms loosly.I must point out that comedy, while undefinable, can have attributed to it certain descriptions. One is juxtaposition, another revealing absurdity, Franken has achieved his most epically comedic role.
Franken's no comic, and no senator.
