Oh my.

But first, there's something wrong on Skins's island this morning, both the old DU and the new DU.

For some reason, the advertisements are coming up in "JavaScript," rather than the way they're supposed to come up.

Probably the elusive enigmatic Elad'll have it fixed any time now, though.

I baked my bacon. It turned out great.

Put it on a rack in a pan at 400 degrees. Not bad at all.

1. You had me at bacon...

Unless you burn it, there is nothing you can do to bacon to make it bad.

Candied
Covered in chocolate
Wrapped around a scallop, steak, roast, etc...
Plain

I have a local butcher who smokes whole pork bellies for me. He is my best friend. He does not know it, but he is.

5. I do bacon in the oven all the time.

Frying it on the stove makes such a mess. Baking it is the only way to fly.

6. I did for the first time last weekend, attempting to make pig candy

It did not come out good and took 45 minutes - way too long for me to wait for bacon

I'm guessing the problem was oven temp.

How long did it take at 400?

When I worked in restaurants that served bacon, it was always easier to bake it.  It takes less time to bake ten pounds of bacon than it does to pan fry it.

Sure, restaurants do this all the time, I don't know why it never took off at home.  What's pig candy?

The microwave bacon takes mere seconds.  BAM. I got bacon.

We do microwave bacon, 45 seconds in the microwave and it's done.

What's pig candy?

I wondered myself, and so I nadined it.

Quote
Pig candy is a dessert made by taking thick strips of smoked bacon and pecans and coating them in caramel or another type of sugar, notably brown sugar. Cayenne pepper can be added and it can be dipped in chocolate. This dish is then served warm or cold and is popular in the southern United States, and it has also become very popular in Washington D.C..[3] It is similar to glazed bacon, featured on Martha Stewart Living.

Also, in honor of the fecund grasswire primitive, Omaha Steve's most vigilant adherent, I nadined "rutabega chili" and got 2,700,000 "results."

All ya'll are f'ed up. You can't make gravy with baked or nuked bacon. Not to mention eggs over easy. ...unless you're just using straight up oil. Gross.

What these "greenies" fail to realize is, it takes two or three times the electricity to fire up the oven than it does for just one burner. Way to go DUmmies! Way to look after the planet!

What happened to that glowball warming shit?

Yuck!  That's what butter is for, if you're not having bacon.  I don't bake my bacon, I fry it normally.  I need the grease to make the cornbread that all ya'll taught me.   :-)

We had a big convection oven at the local American Legion we cooked bacon in.  When we would do our all-you-can-eat breakfast on Saturdays for fundraising we would go through 100lbs+ of bacon.  It was sooooooo good.

When I worked in restaurants that served bacon, it was always easier to bake it.  It takes less time to bake ten pounds of bacon than it does to pan fry it.

Back in that time before recorded history I worked in a resturant where we "blanched" the bacon in an oven then finished it on the grill to order which greatly reduces both the time and the mess on the grill. (I was actually too young to work in the kitchen legally but could wash pots and pans.)

Microwave bacon is just not the same.  M/zeit does it that way all the time.

Thanks to the miracle of industrialized food packaging, our bacon showed up in 20-pound boxes with individual slices laid out on a piece of parchment in neat little rows.

Yeah those are the same boxes we got.  And goodness they tasted good when cooked in that Hobart convection oven.

One of the great things about that job was I got to drive the company truckster to the butcher shop.  Way ahead of or behind our time all our stuff was fresh and local.  No portion controlled stuff there, the hamburg patties were scooped and pressed on site from that day fresh ground beef.  I was just old enough to drive (although it probably wouldn't have bothered the owner if I hadn't been) but not old enough to be a cook.

It was a seasonal business which made the owner a multi millionaire over the course of his ownership. And of course you couldn't hope to touch the costal property now nor even open a business in that location because of enviro laws.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, BACON!

When my son and his step-brothers went camping several years ago, my wife or I would call every now and then to see how they were doing.  Every freaking time we called, they would say they were cooking bacon!

OMG!  I LOVE YOUR AVATAR!  That is so freaking funny!    :lmao:
