Title: nadin shares her wisdom on flag insignia

Oh my.

Never mind nadin's original post; it's a story and a news-photograph of Marines posing underneath an American flag which is over another piece of cloth about the same size, with some sort of logo on it.

2. Scout Snipers.

SS. Makes sense, looks cool. Bad idea for PR purposes. That's what I get out of it.

24. I seriously doubt they are declaring themselves Nazis.

As I said the letters fit their squad and it looks cool. I don't think these guys are Nazis or Nazi sympathizers. I'm not seeing this as anything other than a representation of their squad.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be offended at the use of an SS symbol. Far from it. But let's not make it more than it is.

Troops in Vietnam used to fly the Waffen SS colors because they are imtimidating and they were a badass outfit. It didn't make them Nazis.

The current outrage.

13. Here is one link (of many) that addresses runes. The symbols on the flag in question are the runic 's'

http://sunnyway.com/runes/

oh, and kick

edited to add a link taking one directly to the sowilo http://www.runemaker.com/futhark/sowilo.shtml

One can even find a runic translator that will give the user his/her name (or anything else) in 'runes'. This sort of thing is often used by people who seek a distinctive tattoo, one with a Norse/Germanic/Celtic flavor.

19. All of us can use google to find most anything. I've seen it happen here quite often. For instance here is a link directly to the sowilo. http://www.runemaker.com/futhark/sowilo.shtml

One can also find a runic translator, such that the user can translate his/her name (or anything else) into runes. Many people have used this sort of thing to give tattoos a Norse/Germanic/Celtic flavor/apperance.

It is not that uncommon. And for a group of men whose job title include two esses (*S*cout and *S*niper) it is not such a stretch to imagine they might have done just that.

Kind of a dumb thing to do, reference the flag and the photo. However, it had already been investigated by the USMC and taken care of.

The military is getting more and more political, More PC. Once of the reasons I retired rather than stay in.

Have not figured out some of the copy/paste tricks (I will in time), but here's one of the Nad of Arc's deletions.  It was response 20.  Just happened to have copied it prior to the deletion:

so DoD overreacted, since these Marines are no longer in the unit, or in Afghanistan. So here is a website for ya...

http://www.marines.mil/Pages/Default.aspx

Go tell them that they over reacted.

I got really little patience for people who at the very least defend idiocy, but possibly racism. But perhaps they will love your explanation... and you might help a few Marines in at least an Art 15 hearing, if not outright an Art. 32"

End of response.

IIRC, Art 32 is/was dealing with investigation of charges, so the 'outright an Art 32' doesn't make a lot of sense.  However, it might make a good addition to the resume - Military Law Prosecutor

By George, sir, you got it.

Damn.

I'd forgotten all about it; "it's just a piece of cloth."

And if I recall correctly, even nadin herself had joined in the chorus chanting that.

Paging Traveshamockery or Ballygrl, whoever's in charge of nadin's resume.

33. I'm disappointed in this thread.

I thought DUers, as a group, were smarter and less judgmental than this.

You thought wrong misfit.

I gave you a H5 for changing of that awful primitive-guy avatar.

As far as the quote function, left click and highlight the entire post from said DUmbass, once it is highlighted simply click the quote tab which is on the bottom row of the font options, second from the right (yellow-colored).

Before you hit post you can play around with the preview option which displays above the post you are trying to create.

Maybe they were fans of KISS, and just left off the KI ?  Didn't some people complain about KISS's logo way back when?

Of everything those worthless goons at DU have ever typed, "it's just a stupid piece of cloth" is something I will never forget.

The other thing was "I would rather there be 20 abortions, than 20 births".

Thanks, I love using their own talking points against them.
I'm anxiously awaiting finding a thread on the confederate flag to throw back in their faces.
