Homeless teen prodigy 'never dreamed' of State of the Union invite
The 4-foot-11 teen stood tall as the guest of Long Island congressman Steve Israel, who made the invite after her story of reaching the semifinals in this year’s prestigious Intel Science Talent Search made national headlines.
Israel wanted not only to honor Garvey for her perseverance against adversity, but also to raise the question of how a middle-class family of an academic prodigy could fall into homelessness. Garvey’s father lost his job, her parents were in a car accident that left her mother unable to work for nine months, and the family incurred the cost of traveling to El Salvador because of the death of Garvey’s maternal grandmother. They fell behind on the payments on their home in Brentwood, N.Y., and were evicted on New Year’s Eve.
“On the holidays, you’re not celebrating the holidays,’’ Garvey told NBC News. “You’re putting your stuff in storage and looking for a place to live. It’s not really festive. It’s bad.’’

8. The second paragraph of the OP excerpt raises a question, and then answers it.

Being a teenage academic prodigy has nothing to do with the events that propelled the family into homelessness, so that part of the question seems pointless. As to how the family became homeless, well, the events listed were probably contributory: job loss, car accident, unable to work, travel expenses for funeral.

I saw that pic of her and hubby wearing his "poopy suit" and I really, honestly, have to wonder if she just woke up one morning and said, "**** soap! I'm gonna use Crisco from now on!"
You've really got to wonder about a person who is so, well--WRONG. About everything. And not just by a little bit, mind you. Like a professor said to me when I pointed out to him that he took off 15 points on a 10-point question, "But you were so wrong!" That kind of mind-numbing wrong. And even when shown irrefutable proof she's fuller of shit than a Christmas turkey, no contrition, no apology, no, "Hey, maybe I should reconsider my position" moment of clarity. No, the wall is rushing towards me, not me towards it, and if she just closes her eyes and wishes just a bit harder, the wall will move and she can go on blissfully ignorant of all surrounding her.
Thank you, Obamanaut, for trying to point out to her that she's a booger-eating moron. She'll never figure it out, but God bless ya for trying.

I just had a thought re her writing style.
It sounds like she writes her stuff in mexican, and then runs it through a mexican-to-English translation program.
If you've read material translated by software, it has the same disjointed, nonsensical feel as a nutcase nadin post.
Example: Reason number don't know what for occupy.
Maybe then she edits the English to put in the comical spelling and the crazy nadinisms.

Nads' resemblance to Steve Delaney's character, Count Arthur Strong, that runs on BBC radio is striking. You'd almost swear the Count was based off of Nads herself:

I wouldn't waste my time; she has the sensitivity of a rock.
Only she herself, and no other human entity, can bring her back down to earth.
I've watched people like nadin in real life; to reason with them, to argue with them, to hurt them so as to get them to betray some human sensitivity, is an exercise in futility.
And so one has to do the opposite, stoking, caressing, their ego by ass-kissing.
Bloated egos inevitably explode. In their own time, of course, but they do.
It doesn't hurt to help the process along.

Different gauntlets. One, the one referenced above, defines "steel gloves." The one of which you speak of refers to a beaded belt that was used by Native American tribes in a "put up or shut up" fashion. If someone threw down their gauntlet in front of your chief, and he failed to pick it up off the ground, it meant that your village/tribe was in for the short end of the stick, so to speak. If the chief picked it up off of the ground, it meant, "Fight's on."
