'Tebow’ bill to let home-schoolers play high school sports passes Va. House
Last edited Wed Feb 8, 2012, 06:49 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
The House of Delegates voted 59 to 39 Wednesday in favor of a bill that would allow Virginia’s tens of thousands of home-schooled students to play sports at their local high schools.
Gov. Robert F. McDonnell (R), has said he will sign the bill. “Home-school parents pay taxes like everybody else,†he said
The bill bans public schools from partnering with the Virginia High School League (DU addition - the VHSL opposes the bill) — which governs high school activites in the state — because it forbids home-schoolers from playing sports or being involved in other programs such as drama, debate and yearbook. It only pertains to high schools, because children in lower grades are often able to play at their local public schools.
The change would sunset in 2017, and supporters would have to return to the state to reevaluate the situation after four years.

the other side is:

school district they are opposed to then they should live where
they do ..... I find these home schooling "there is no such thing as
global warming" and "the earth 6,500 years old science teaching"
people a threat to America's future.
I find these people very anti American and not too Christian either.
BTW my late uncle was an Episcopal Rector in a small town in S.W.
Ohio and he and his wife worked their asses off to help all the people
have a better quality of life. Their kids went to public schools and
did just fine.
Ok, you lil twat, let me ask what you are going to DO about it?!?

Then the families shouldn't have to pay the part of their taxes that support those schools. For that matter, people with no children shouldn't pay for those schools.

I've been to some of these schools for work I was doing a few years back DUmmie. You want to know why they are warzones? It's because nobody can't put the fear of angry almight God into little Johnny's heart, and Johnny, and his parent(s), knows it. He can **** up as bad as he wants, and what will his worst punishment be? They'll call his mom, who won't do anything substantial to her poor little put upon darling, or they will place him in in-school suspension, where he has fun doodling on paper all day long. Heaven, and the United States Supreme Court, forbid he should get a spanking in front of his classmates, that might traumatize the little monster. Expel him? Then the school would lose federal funds, so unless he starts a fire in the kitchen that ain't gonna actually happen.
I went into a school where I was literally told not to walk alone and avoid any packs of boys that might be in the hall during class time. They were trouble and the school knew it. The reason the school consistently did nothing about it was because if they were in the hall, then maybe a few kids in the classrooms would learn something. Baltimore is know place to send a kid to school.

That seems prejudiced to me. This DUmmie assumes that troubled public schools are the fault of poverty. How silly. Poor/low income people = violence? What a bigot.
To the original topic, home-schooled kids are allowed to participate in extra curricular activities here. Works well. In the smallest schools it can make the difference between having a basketball team or not. In the larger districts, where one actually has to try out for a team, the school may get the benefit of a really talented kid.

I thought DUmmies were against team sports in the first place? All "barbaric" and such.
What's their beef if Homeschooled Harry plays for the local high school, or his sister is a cheerleader?
The VHSL is nothing more than a bunch of NEA rejects with a more left-leaning bend.
Stalin would call them "hard core communists"!

Yep, typical DUmbass answer - Either shutup or leave, but don't you dare do anything to prevent worthless teachers and admin from sucking up tax dollars.
Sorry, idiot, the only "change" I believe in is the one I make happen.

To both of you ass-douches: I have absolutely no problem with this provided I can have my share of the tax revenue I pay refunded to me every year. You worthless twats talk a great game but when it really comes down to the bare essentials (tax $$$), that's where your talk ends. I have no problems keeping my home-schooled child out of your indoctrination centers, you should have no problems doing without my tax dollars.
But that's not going to happen, is it? You will happily hold me at gunpoint to get my money and deny my children equal participation.
Your day is coming, DUmmies....

Hardly, DUmbass. Follow the link (http://www.doe.virginia.gov/students_parents/private_home/home_instruction/home_instruction_handbook.pdf) and educate yourself, boy; you won't end up sounding like such an arrogant ass.
Feel free to click this link (http://www.hslda.org/docs/nche/000010/200410250.asp) and see how much better the homeschooled kids are to the maudlin waifs to which you so carelessly throw our money.

My homeschool child does not have a criminal record of any sort. Would you care to put that up against the average high school population, DUmbass?
Also, mimicking a "drawl" makes you look pathetic and bigoted. Wait, you're a DUmbass, nevermind....

The hatred and stupid is STRONG in that thread.

What about THE CHILDREN DUmmies?

Reading the thread, I believe Snake is being sarcastic up there. He's yanking their chains on their thread; he even got the "FR's that way ---->" invitation.
I jumped on Snake before, not sure what to make of him.
Tech Smythe to homeschooled kids: "****em." He's a real dick.
ProudtoBadumbbitch is over there, too. It's a good read.

To DUmmies, home-schooled kids are evil, but there's no mention of the Los Angeles Unified School District replacing every teacher and administrator at Miramonte Elementary School this week because three teachers there are under investigation for child molestation and sexual abuse.
Go ahead, send your kids to public school so DUmmies like Pam Dawson and Anne Pritchett can have them in their classrooms. Or worse.

Why is that? Because he has the moral conviction and courage to publically display his faith and belief in God? You think you are any better because you are so proud to be an atheist?

As disgusting as the whole miramonte school scandal is, what is absolutely infuriating is that the primary teacher at the center of this mess (the sicko feeding his semen to kids) was able to resign (thanks to the union going to bat for him) before getting fired. As a result he is able to collect his full pension and will still be able to do so even when he is convicted and sitting in prison.
-
DUer Botany is apparently too dim or ill-educated to know that the home-schoolers still have to pay the same taxes as everyone else, and therefore bases its entire post on a factual error.
Botany, you are not a good argument for your own point.

I want to see these teachers' unions DIE in my lifetime.

Uh, DUmmies, my son was homeschooled & played high school soccer. He was actually the "test" subject for new rules put in place by the legislators. The requirement for players attending the school was to maintain a C average. My son had to have a portfolio of work and an evaluation by a certified teacher. With the exception of his best friend, every single one of his friends were secular homeschoolers. You guys don't know what the **** you're talking about. As usual.

In Florida the system works like this, if you are home schooled or attend a school that doesn't have the particular sport you wish to play then you can play for the nearest school that has a team. For example, my niece attended a vocational school where she took culinary arts but the school had no sports teams. She was allowed to play vollyball, soccer and softball at the nearest high school and she lettered in all her sports each year she played in them.

I remember when I was homeschooled, building a suicide vest came after English and before lunch. :whatever:

In all seriousness, I'm sure the Indonesian madrassa our muslim president attended as a child teaches that skill today.
(If they didn't when he was there.)

Proud Atheist is a typical bigot who, as you said, believes Tebow must be pure evil simply because he's a Christian, an honorable man, and a good role model for kids. All the while, he and the other DUmmies sing the praises of Occupy savages who rampantly engage in violence and lawlessness, and hold them up as heroes.
Snake Alchemist is too repugnant for words. He, in a rare moment of honesty for a DUmmy, openly admits that most public schools are war zones (Thanks in large part to incompetent union teachers and administrators who care more about their salaries than about teaching kids things that matter or showing enough backbone to keep the violent and potentially dangerous students in line to protect the other students), but basically says, "Screw you, parents! So what if your kid is going to a chaotic public school where he'll be taught nothing of value, get beaten up by gang members on a daily basis after he refuses to help them sell drugs to the other students, and maybe even be molested by one of his teachers! Deal with it."
