Swedish PM wants people to work until age 75

"If people think that we can live longer and shorten our working life, then pensions are going to be lower. The question is, are people ready for that?," he asked.

Reinfeldt said people should be prepared to make a career change when their profession becomes too difficult physically or too stressful.

"The left-wing believes that when your job gets too difficult you should go off on early retirement or get some type of social benefits. But I think that when work gets too tough I should do something else."

"We have to start asking ourselves, 'How are we going to do that? How do we change careers in the prime of our lives? And how do we make it possible to work until we're older, maybe even much older?'," he said.

Not retire just because one thing is too hard?

Sputtering, spittle-flecked vitriol in 3...2...1...

1. i reject this proposal.

maybe in Sweden. I don't know. But not in the US please.
Have of us wouldn't live to see retirement.

You could, perhaps, get some schooling and work on your capitalization and spelling.

C'mon, Karin.

"Have" like in a thing or number divided by too.
It's pretty close.
Better than the DUmmie spelling out "Halve", no?

Pretty close is good enough for government work, I guess.

I think that's actually gauged using the Crunchy scale.

So, Nadin says if the milk is crunchy, don't drink it.

When the government is in charge of your retirement program, then they decide when you retire. Something for the DUmmies to ponder.

Perhaps the DUmmie is unaware of a few minor facts:

--In 1937 the average lifespan was about 61.0 years for men, and 65.0 years for women (caucasians).  If you were black, your life expectancy would have been about 51/55, respectively, meaning you had a significantly LESS than 50/50 chance of ever seeing retirement age.

--If we had adjusted retirement age along with life expectancy, today the retirement age would be almost 76 years for men, and 81 years of age for women.

So yeah, that was kind of the whole ****ing idea--take a bunch of money from people who were likely to never see it and give it to people who hung on just long enough who hadn't done sufficient retirement planning of their own.

And in the process, folks like me who have paid into it all our lives are going to be told in 20-25 years, "Sorry, you're SOL."

Here's a wild idea--how about DOING YOUR OWN ******* FINANCIAL PLANNING???

In this economy: to have a dollar is just fifty cents.

8. You've got it 100% backwards.

Should be a mandatory retirement age of 55. Let the young work.

What if my personal wishes don't fit your "mandate?"  My particular soul loves to work, and would be quite lost without it.  Who the hell are you, anyway?  Furthermore, 55 is not old.  Does Madonna look ready for a rocking chair and knitting needles?

55?  What does the DUmmy plan to live off of for the next 30-40 years?

Oh, that's right.  The taxpayers.

Exactly what I thought about when I read it.  The age was set to 65 with the full knowledge (given what they knew at the time) and with the full intention that the overwhelming majority of citizens would NOT live to see retirement

.
