Pelosi Vows to Stand With Obama Against Catholic Church; Says Decision Forcing Catholics to Act Against Faith Was ‘Very Courageous’
By Thomas Cloud
February 2, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) vowed today that she will join with the Obama administration in standing up against the Catholic Church in defending a new regulation that will require Catholic individuals to buy, and Catholic institutions to provide, health insurance plans that cover sterilizations and artificial contraceptives, including those that induce abortions.

The Catholic church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong and the Catholic bishops of the United States have argued that forcing a Catholic individual to purchase a health insurance plan that covers these things--or forcing a Catholic institution to provide such a plan--forces Catholics to act against their consciences and is a violation of the First Amendment right to free exercise of religion.

Isn't she/it a Catholic? (http://cnsnews.com/news/article/pelosi-vows-stand-obama-against-catholic-church-says-decision-forcing-catholics-act)

I would be willing to bet there's a Cardinal somewhere who'd be willing to rectify that little oversight of her blatantly flouting Church doctrine yet still receiving Sacraments... Or is it only the Pope who has the authority of excommunication?

Again the left showing tolerance only when it suites them.

If this were a bunch of Muslims disagreeing I bet the noise coming from Washington would be a tad bit different.

As I said here (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,68752.0), the Catholic hospitals in the US should close before this mandate becomes effective, with no bones being made about why.

Imagine the press release from the Vatican:
"Today the Office of the Holy See declared that all Catholic Church owned hospitals in the US will be closing due to federal mandates that contradict Church doctrine. The Church stated that all medical supplies remaining at the hospitals after (insert date here) will be donated to clinics for indigent families operating in the communities the hospitals are leaving. The Pope stated that it was 'better to leave the health care market than to be forced to sin.'"
