President Obama gets inside a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 car as he tours the 2012 Washington Auto Show at the Washington Convention Center

I have to say, it looks really good on him.

I predict this will become a car thread shortly.

Quote

It begins with the supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter 32-valve V8 engine that delivers 550 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a TREMEC® 6-speed manual transmission. With all that power, you’ll want brakes that are up to the task. That's why 14-inch Brembo vented rotors with Brembo four-piston calipers up front are standard. The crowning touch – aggressive 19" premium painted forged aluminum wheels.

When you own this Shelby model, you will be part of an elite group. The Shelby GT500â„¢ Performance Package puts the focus on substance and performance. It includes a 3.73 limited-slip rear axle,19-inch painted forged-aluminum front wheels, 20-inch painted forged-aluminum rear wheels (with P265/40ZR19(F) P285/35ZR20(R) tires), high-performance front and rear springs, unique front and rear stabilizer bars, specialized rear shocks, a rear spoiler with distinctive Gurney flap, a custom gear shift knob and unique exterior stripes.

I like that blue color in the photo.

Yeah really they could have built something popular like a Dolt.

The 5,500 units of the 2011 Shelby GT500 (pictured above) are already sold out, so Mustang lovers best just move on to the next offering from the American automaker; it’s time to start talking about the 2012 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. We may not have any official details on it just yet, but the power of the Internet, and an untrustworthy auto employee, strike again with a leaked document revealing details on the 2012 model’s ordering guide. Guess that means the GT500’s heart will beat for at least one more year.

Nothing much is going to change for the 2012 model considering the Mustang was just given a little refresh for 2011. It will still see its usual coupe and convertible versions, with prices starting from $49,495 and $54,495 respectively. The list of new options only includes new Recaro leather sports seats, a glass roof, and two new packages.

Under the hood there will be the same aluminum 5.4 Liter supercharged V8, derived from the unit inside the Ford GT super car, that produces 550 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque.

It may still be packing the same gear as the last model, but who really cares? The 2012 Ford Mustang GT500 will probably still sell out just as quickly as the 2011 model did.

Egg-zactly -

The One is here getting his fingerprints on a car produced by a company that refused a few bills off of 'Obama's Stash' - and these primitives are fawning over it.

Ford's success is the reason that Free Market works and government control doesn't. The one US car company not handed money in exchange for a controlling interest is now beating the other two senseless. Or should I say other 1 1/2 US companies, as Chrysler's 'triumphant' return to solvency was when foreign maker Fiat took a major share in the company to get access to Chrysler's US plants to get their POS cars on US shores again.

YAY ! Team Obama worked hard to sell off an American giant to a foreign interest ! Rejoice ! Rejoice !

You mean you don't want a new Fiat Dodge Dart?

Well, if I'm getting a Dodge branded Fiat, I'm going for the Dart Rallye  because the stupidly spelled word makes it so much better.

Truth is, I have been a Chrysler fan for a long time - I was even okay with Daimler-Chrysler, because at least the trade-off was some solid engineering ( My '07 Grand Caravan SXT is testament to that. It has north of 80K miles on it and it still runs like new. Only problem has been one of the plastic side panels on the 'Stow & Go' seats has snapped off. Not a drop of oil leaks from anything) - But tiny city-car maker Fiat ? Ugh... They are only half a click above Renault, IMHO. Im pretty crushed by it all.

Chevy got good coverage on Fox today.

They gave a Volt to one of the Fox News guys who had bad-mouthed it, so he could see for himself what a great golf cart it is.

He charged it for ten hours overnight, drove in to work this morning, and the battery was dead after 18 miles, in the middle of the Lincoln Tunnel, and the gas engine had to kick in. Sticker price I believe he said was over $50K.

Apparently the range they quote is for warm weather, no heater, no air conditioner.

Sounds like an car designed by a government committee.

Yeah, a Camero, 'Vette, or Charger was out of the question.  They TOOK our money, but not Ford.

I may still own some GM products, but ALL of them were built before 2009.

I liked that mid-60s solid, more-sqared looks, what can I say?  If that's your style though, you must've really liked the Challenger, which had a pretty good claim to badassitude itself!

I watched a show on Nat Geo channel a few months ago called Ultimate Factories.  On this episode they were showing how the new Dodge Challenger is built.  They started with the Hemi engine being built in a factory in mexico and showed how it was shipped to the car factory in Canada for assembly.  Pretty sad how this once American built muscle car is now produced outside the U.S.  Way to go, u.a.w...

My last Camaro wasn't a true muscle car but it is what it was and I thought it was cool.

My last one was a 1992 25th Annv. edition . Red with black racing stripes and all the badging that came with it.

The one before that was a Black 1988 RS.

And my first one , a rark red 1988 RS  that I had for only 6 month because some ass I loaded it to crashed it into 30 feet of guardrail and totaled it
