Title: poll: has the jury system of moderation added something to Skins's island?
Post by: franksolich on January 27, 2012, 08:03:31 AM
After about six weeks of the new Skins's island with its new system of moderation, "juries" of primitives rather than moderators and administrators deciding the fate of campfires, do you think it's added something to Skins's island?

Like made it more entertaining watching the primitives squibble-squabble and wiggle-waggle their armpits at each other?

Or do you think it's a net negative?

Also, does one suspect the "jury system" is going to last, or that it's going to go the way of past "improvements" on Skins's island that were eliminated because they agitated the primitives so much?

They-whose-entire-agenda-requires-inconsolable-discontent will squibble squabble if their disputes are adjudicated by moderators and they will wiggle-waggle if their disputes are resigned to the mob. There is no process that will ever provoke them to say, "This is fair" because they need life to be unfair to sustain their impotence and outrage.

For us the jury system changes little because the complaints and results are out of the public view...but, oh, the joy we would have if we could but peer into what irks the delicate dilettantes the most.

I think it adds a whole new dimension of bureaucratic red-tape that will be nothing but headaches for the admins at no real benefit to the website.

The infighting will be ramped up, therefore, it'll be more entertaining.

The jury system is hilarious.
Now they see themselves as guardians of the hate.
Newly minted political officers on the ship of socialism.
Block captians cacking the whip, allowing no dissent.

I need to point out for those who don't have moles on Skins's island, sir, that they can still get at least a taste of the effect the "jury system"'s having on the primitives.

The "meta forum" there, a public forum, is full of primitival whining about "unfair" juries.

The "meta forum" is directly below the "general discussion forum" on Skins's island; perhaps many haven't checked it out because it sounds so.....nadinesque, something that doesn't look like it'd interest them.

Oh wow.

It's the El Dorado of DU.

I avoided it for the first few weeks because to me, it sounded nadinesque.

But one day when I was bored, I looked into it, and whoa.....

Buncha damn totalitarians judging on the many things they're offended by. It's hilarious!

So the meta forum is their Suggestions and Feedback forum.  Trust a bunch of liberal pinheads to give it some stupid name nobody recognizes.

Yes, I know meta means "about", as in a descriptor, but meta-discussion just sounds so self imporant.

That has become my favorite forum there.  It's chock full of hilarity and perfect examples of liberal whining.

a plea to jurors on alerts from the Guns forum
Please -- if you hate the Guns forum, if you think it has no place at DU, if you think it is full of right-wing sentiments and ugliness, and if all you want to say is "a pox on both your houses" -- just withdraw from the jury.

Saying "I hate this forum" or "I think the whole thread should be locked" or "what do you expect, it's the Guns forum?" is not going to contribute to improving civility at DU3.
Who made iverglas king of the Gungeon?

When the jury system was launch, the prediction here was that it would cause all manner of inter-necine squabbles leading to potential bloodshed...the meta forum is the perfect fulfilment of that prediction.

It is pure comedy gold.

I said not sure.

Having to answer to your peers will be difficult for the primtives since each view themselves as the smartest person in the room.  I think it'll last a while since the alternative is to not post on the island, and there's way too many primitives who don't want to paddle away, so they'll bear it.  Could it change over time?  Sure.  But I think Skins wants to be more hands off, and given the immaturity of the primitives, who can blame him.

The DUmmies sure do love their red tape.  Imagine how much more bureaucracy would exist if they were in charge of the government. :rotf:

I can see it now the new and improved Office of Redundancy, (with Skammer in charge of course).

I vote no, and here's why.

The jury system would be entertaining if jurors were selected entirely at random for every primitive - but they aren't are they ? Paying primitives can block 15 of their biggest foes from ever sitting on their jury, making the application of primitive justice unequal at best.

Yet another irony - The primitives complain that 'The 1%' can use their money to skirt justice without presenting any real evidence - yet Democratic Underground has codified that very notion into their terms of service.

Juries have made the Meta forum into the new ATA.  Not quite, but almost as good.

This post alone shows the true potential of the Meta board:

Proper Spelling And Grammar Requirementz (http://www.democraticunderground.com/124035008)

Just think of the potential carnage

Meta is my first stop these days.  I've never seen as big a collection of adult crybabies as I have in that forum.

The feminists have really had a showing there the last few days.  Check out the axes they are grinding.  I mentioned this on a previous post, but they are fighting over everything from the word bitch to the term tit for tat.  TIT FOR TAT is demeaning!!!!! / dummie
