Title: Don't hit me either----message from Newsmax (Rush and Michael Reagan)
Post by: SaintLouieWoman on January 26, 2012, 05:30:31 PM
The primary here in Florida is getting dirtier by the minute. I'm so sick of the constant robo calls from Romney. He has serious money being spent here. At this point, if he were the only Republican candidate still standing, I wouldn't vote for him. He's doing some serious fabricating.

Here's something that I was just emailed from Newsmax. I would think that Michael Reagan would be a fairly authoritative figure on whether a candidate was a Regan Republican.

Limbaugh, Mike Reagan Blast Romney for Smears on Gingrich

Ronald Reagan’s eldest son Mike Reagan has issued a statement lambasting Mitt Romney and his supporters for claims that Romney’s Republican presidential rival Newt Gingrich was a strong critic of President Reagan.

Mike Reagan says such claims are false.

Even Rush Limbaugh, shocked by the Romney claims, chimed on his Thursday radio broadcast to say, "This is obviously a coordinated attack to take Newt out here in Florida."

Rush slammed the Romney-backed smear campaign against Newt.

“That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much," Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh added that Newt has always been a conservative from his early days in national talk radio in the 1980s.

“He was perhaps the premier defender of Ronald Reagan,” Limbaugh said.

On Thursday, Mike Reagan, a respected conservative commentator, responded to the Gingrich critics with this statement to Newsmax:

“I am deeply disturbed that supporters of Mitt Romney are claiming that Newt Gingrich is not a true Reaganite and are even claiming that Newt was a strong critic of my father.

“Recently I endorsed Newt Gingrich for president because I believe that Newt is the only Republican candidate who has both consistently backed the conservative policies that my father championed and the only Republican that will continue to implement his vision.

“It surprises me that Mitt Romney and his supporters would raise this issue — when Mitt by his own admission voted for Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale who opposed my father, and later supported liberal Democrat Paul Tsongas for president.

“As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time.

“Say what you want about Newt Gingrich but when he was speaker of the House he surrounded himself with Reagan conservatives and implemented a Ronald Reagan program of low taxes and restrained federal spending. --snip.

My eldest son and his wife live in Winter Park, and they are telling the same story.....

In fairness, how much of this negative stuff is coming out of Romney's "SuperPAC", over which he has no control ??

It's weird, many of the commercials are coming out with the statement at the end, "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this ad".

Newt has finally started running ads. They're positive ads, telling of what he's done for this country. Romney and/or his PAC again started the negative stuff first.

There seems to be a coordinated attack on Newt lately. He must be really scaring the establishment types.

There's a large double standard going in pro-Romney "Dignified" Conservative press about that, Romney is given a clean pass for everything "His" superPAC does, while they hold Gingrich personally accountable for whatever "His" says.

I don't exactly see Mitt trying to distance himself from it either.  And I was watching Hannity last night where he basically admitted he was going to play patty-cake with Obama if he's the nominee.

I think Gingrich, Santorum and Paul all should have pitched in to run this in an ad against Romney:
George Soros: There’s not much difference between Obama and Romney

Eventually they're going to have to consolidate to one conservative candidate. Newt's PAC ran a very positive ad tonight touting Newt's accomplishments. I really hope that they tone down the mud slinging and explain to the Republicans (and also to Independents and Democrats) why each will be the better candidate and eventual president.

I'm so glad that the primary is over in Florida. It was not a good experience. At least Newt also stayed positive in his speech this evening. I hope it stays that way. Trouble is, Romney won by going extremely negative and overwhelmed Newt with the spending. I guess it is what it is.
