Washington (CNN) -- U.S. special forces swooped into Somalia in a pair of helicopters in a daring overnight raid to rescue two kidnapped aid workers -- an American and a Dane -- and killed the nine gunmen holding them, American officials said Wednesday.

The hostages, Jessica Buchanan and Poul Thisted, were seized in October after they visited humanitarian projects in northern Somalia, said the Danish Refugee Council, the agency for which they worked.

Both are unharmed, the aid group said.

They were taken to a regional medical facility and were receiving care from U.S. military doctors and nurses, Pentagon spokesman George Little said Wednesday.

SEAL Team #6 kickin' ass and taking NO prisoners. All 9 of the Somali captors were sent to hell (with Allah presiding, of course).

Dumb bastards had been chewing qat, a plant of some type that has a narcotic effect. It's what those ****sticks do, apparently, when they're not actively robbing, killing, or pirating something or someone that doesn't belong to them.

The assault team apparently parachuted in from their aircraft that had taken off from the Marine base in Djibouti and proceeded to kill the captors and rescue the two hostages - one 32-year-old American woman and one 60-year-old Dane, both of whom had been working for a Danish humanitarian effort when they were taken prisoner last October.

The American woman has a medical condition that became life-threatening, which is apparently what it takes for Lord Zero to authorize American forces to get rid of bad guys.

Little to no political risk with this one, evidently, so the Jerk-in-Chief readily signed on.

Were these the scuba diving SEALs? The airborne SEALs? Or the SEALs that perform covert ops?

Maybe Vesta can fill us in.  :stirpot:

This was my thought also. I suspect that if she was not in trouble from a health perspective she would still be there. When did we pin down their location and why did we not go after them at that point rather than letting them just sit there????

Only when Obama needs an uptick in his ratings ....the seals are going to be busy from now until election time or, god forbid, something goes wrong.

The article doesn't come right and say so, but these two people were nabbed back in October. I have to assume that the State Department knew about this and while it wasn't front page news (unlike those punk idiots who were arrested while tripping through the tulips on the border with Iran and then successfully ransomed off and returned), there's no question that Lord Zero knew.

The U.S. military has always been the political pawn of U.S presidents, so that much is nothing new. What IS new is the willingness of Barry to use SEALs without any apparent restriction. For example, all 9 bad guys went down. That tells me the ROE were very clear, and very weapons-free.

He'll time the rescue about 3 weeks before the election. Until then, the guy sits and rots.  :whatever:

The timing on this rescue is interesting. Obama made a comment to Leon P at the SOTU about good night or something like that. Obama is a heartless wretch (watching my language) who will do anything for his ratings. The trouble is, he's way too transparent.

Apparently the FBI has known of the location for some time because they have been negotiating with he kidnappers for some time.

All I know, is that if I am ever taken as a hostage... I want to be with a pretty white girl!

It seemed to me the mission was timed to coincide with announcements of large force reductions, and large defense cuts.
