Title: Life put on-hold - DUmp offline.

Democratic Underground is OFFLINE.

Democratic Underground is offline from 3am EST to 9pm EST Wednesday January 18 to protest forthcoming Internet blacklist legislation known as SOPA and PIPA.

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) proposed by the U.S. House of Representatives and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) proposed by the U.S. Senate have the potential to severely cripple the free and open Internet. Democratic Underground is proud to join the many websites taking part in today's action to protest these bills by blacking out our site between the hours of 3am EST and 9pm EST.

To learn more about these devastating bills, and for information on how you can help to stop SOPA and PIPA, please visit the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Action Center.

STOP THE INTERNET BLACKLIST LEGISLATION!

How will the poor DUmmies cope? One can almost hear the cries of pain as they emerge from the basements and experience direct sun-light for the first time in years.

I can sort of see Wiki going off line as a protest, though it's pretty weak.  It's far from the only place to get info, after all.  But a place like the DUmp?  No one with any power will even notice!!

MrsSmith without Wiki the collective intelligence of the DUmp completely dries up.  No sense doing a Nadine if there is no answer forthcoming.  It would be a lot like asking "if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to steal the wood" or something like that. :-) So with the collective intelligence gone the DUmmies become like the infamous Borg Cube.

And on the left coast CalPig lets out in an anguished moan,  "Talk dirty to me, stud".  "Tell me more about those golden showers."   :whistling:

My dear BEG,

I forgot all about that aspect (or maybe I just blocked it out as being too horrifying to contemplate).  Any guess on where the DUmmies are on the withdrawal symptoms listed below??

Quote

Early symptoms of withdrawal include:

•Agitation
•Anxiety
•Muscle aches
•Increased tearing
•Insomnia
•Runny nose
•Sweating
•Yawning

Late symptoms of withdrawal include:

•Abdominal cramping
•Diarrhea
•Dilated pupils
•Goose bumps
•Nausea
•Vomiting

I just know the DUmmies with 50,000+ posts are pacing back and forth in their basements chomping at the bit to dive into the sewer once again. They could be out looking for jobs today, but I'm betting they only leave thier roch motels to score gov't checks or drugs.

DUmmy. On the disability gravy train. limited income. no extra cash to enjoy the day. and NO DU.

Q) what will he do?
A) avoid all chores. pace. beat the walls. temp himself to post on CC, but chicken out. Suffer withdrawals.
take the fetal position. whimper. Blame Bush.

Why are so many lefties against having Obama take away people's freedom of speech?  I've noticed a lot of liberals/progressive/Democrats getting pissed about these internet bills.  You would think they would be celebrating and cheering it on.

Because theirs is now threatened. Simplest answer you need. If it was ours, they'd be throwing a party.

Because they believe in the age old doctrine of do as I say not as I do.  Lets face it they want to be able to use BitTorrent and PirateBay to download pirated movies and software rather than pay the fare demanded by the holders of intellectual property rights.   But it is ok for them to do it because well, they are somehow better, smarter and more entitled to useSTEAL someone else's intellectual property.

I love that Hollywierd is on one side Silicone Valley on the other (although  I would think SV would also support this).

Heck both Jobs and Gates were the biggest pirates around.
