SOLDIER’S FACEBOOK POST RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT U.S. SPECIAL FORCES IN SYRIA
anuary 17, 2012 (San Diego)— On January 2, a soldier in San Diego linked to Special Forces posted on his Facebook page that he was deploying to Syria. The soldier’s Facebook page has been scrubbed, as well as almost all references to him. Still, this tantalizing piece of information startled readers, leading many to ask: does our country have troops in Syria and if so, why?
The likely presence of U.S. special forces inside Syria, a nation descending into civil war, may come as a surprise to the American public. But it’s no secret to many in Congress, where testimony before the Armed Services Committee as of last year by a top military official confirmed that the US has Special forces in over 20 Mideast countries including Syria, The Nation reported in 2010.
According to U.S. Navy Admiral Eric Olson, outdoing chief of Special Operations Command, in testimony before the House Armed Services Committee last year said that the U.S. had special operations troops in 20 countries in the Middle East. The Nation further reported that Colonel Tim Nye estimated in August that by the end of 2011, the U.S. would likely have special forces deployed in 120 countries. http://www.thenation.com/article/162566/secret-war-120-countries. That’s a big jump from June 2010, when the Washington Post reported special operations in 70 countries. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/03/AR2010060304965.html.
The Facebook posting raises additional questions. Why would a special forces soldier reveal the destination for a mission online? That answer may never be known, since according to family, he lost his life overseas and his body is en route home.

Point one, sorry for the length of the article, it is long.
It is best read at the ECM site since it is chockfull of links...

I remember 20 years ago watching "Desert Storm" unfold on TV. The coolest thing I saw was the Special Forces guys (don't know what they were, Green Berets, Navy Seals, Delta?)...but anyway, they were shown tooling around in dune buggies. The TV reports said they had been running wild all over the deserts in Iraq.

That's why only professionals do journalism properly. There is so much about this story that is questionable. I'm afraid mistakes were made that should not have been made in the story. Big ones.
I'll start with the fact that not everyone who claims to be "special forces" is actually involved in special forces. It all unravels from that point.

at all. As near as I can tell, that has not even been established.
It is my opinion, as a retired journalist, that this story is poorly researched and written. At the time of its publication, it was still unclear whether this person was alive or dead and no confirmation that he is even in the military. The Facebook post was just a launching platform for a bunch of speculation about our supposed special forces operations in Syria. There's no evidence presented of that, either. The only thing that led to all this speculation was some guy's post on Facebook, which may or may not even be a true statement by someone who may or may not actually be in the military.
Weak sauce, journalistically, all around. No editor of a responsible publication would approve such a poorly-supported article.

It seems your "special forces" soldier may not actually be dead. If that is true, then perhaps other things that you took as factual may also not be factual. Perhaps you were a little premature in your reporting and didn't check all the facts adequately. It happens, and is always embarrassing. If it it is true that this person did not die in combat, or isn't even an actual "Special Forces" soldier, perhaps a self-delete of your OP is in order. Your call, I think.

Our original source was within Occupy San Diego, but who is now having second thoughts themselves. Their source was reportedly a member of Jay’s family. Others have been making calls and have found NO confirmation of his death, either at the DoD site, Jay’s hometown, there’s no funeral home, no obituary, no report of his death except via this family member. NEW NEW UPDATE from 1/12/12: A reporter from a local news website who has been researching this story, says this in an email this morning: “He [Jay] died in the line of duty and what he was doing is supper, duper classified,…”
NEW UPDATE from 1/11/12: There is research still going on over this case about whether Jay Polk was killed or not. It is still possibly true that he was killed. To speculate why the DoD has not publicized his death yet, we understand that in certain black ops where lives are still in danger, info is carefully squeezed out – or not at all – until it’s over.

Excellent find Sparky.
I love this from Nad's editor:
East Coast Magazine just this minute updated their article with a disclaimer;
Update February 3, 2012: Sgt. Polk’s death has still not been reported by the Dept. of Defense, nor has any notice of his death appeared in his family’s hometown newspaper. A source has further informed ECM that his name has not been provided for addition to a memorial that honors fallen special services soldiers. Thus at this point, it appears likely that Polk did not die in service overseas. Perhaps he faked his death, or possibly someone else posted misleading information on his Facebook account. Where is he now? If anyone has conclusive evidence, please email editor@eastcountymagazine.org.

Not only is nutcase nadin being slapped down by her moonbat blog, but the person doing the slapping is one of her fellow DUmpmonkeys.
It's a supper, dupper slapdown.
She needs to stop reporting on Facebook hoaxes, and start getting her news items off public restroom stalls.

The marked improvement in spelling would be our first hint, if she does.

Maybe nadin should update her story. Just a bit.

That information has no credibility until it's posted on Facebook.

She made statements she spoke with commanders etc when of course NOTHING could be further from the truth based on this. Nice find.

All of Nads admirers are begging for a retraction and she disappears.
Come on Nads, those be your pals. Don't keep them waiting.

Why do DUmmies always support fake military or a member of the military who turn their own? Why can't they support someone like this?
We often hear elected officials attempt to galvanize the American people by delivering messages of “hope†and “change,†that critics on both sides of the aisle in turn disparage as simple campaign rhetoric that will inevitably fade away or go unaccounted for.
After making the ultimate sacrifice, Sgt. William Stacey’s words will not only provide some comfort to his family, but undoubtably live on as an inspiration to men and women who fight for the freedoms he held most dear and was willing to defend at all costs.
Sgt. Stacey was the son of two teachers, who released their son’s letter with the 23-year-old’s obituary in his hometown Seattle Times. Sgt. Stacey’s stirring “in case of death†letter was found by his family Thursday, it reads:
“My death did not change the world; it may be tough for you to justify its meaning at all. But there is a greater meaning to it. Perhaps I did not change the world. Perhaps there is still injustice in the world. But there will be a child who will live because men left the security they enjoyed in their home country to come to his. And this child will learn in the new schools that have been built. He will walk his streets not worried about whether or not his leader’s henchmen are going to come and kidnap him. He will grow into a fine man who will pursue every opportunity his heart could desire. He will have the gift of freedom, which I have enjoyed for so long. If my life buys the safety of a child who will one day change this world, then I know that it was all worth it.
Semper Fidelis means always faithful. Always faithful to God, Country and Corps. Always faithful to the principles and beliefs that guided me into the service. And on that day in October when I placed my hand on a bible and swore to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic, I meant it.â€
Sgt. Stacey tragically died on January 31. He joined the Marines in January 2007 and had completed a total of five deployments. Sgt. Stacey was set to return home to Washington state after his final deployment in Afghanistan this spring.

Talked to the commanders, did she? Usually CO's are too busy for shit like that and give it to the PAO. The fact that she can't name a single person she spoke to tells me she's fuller of shit than a Christmas turkey.

129. As someone who had a Brother in Cambodia, when "we" were
not in Cambodia, yeah it would not surprise me in the least to find out we have Special Forces in Syria. I'm sorry he died. He should have faced a Court Marshall.
Whose mole is taunting them?
Then there's this:
Robb
216. Not complicated.
OP said man dead. Man not dead. OP vanishes.

So things are back on an even keel. Just like in most of 2011, there are seven nadin threads on the first page of this forum.
Has there ever been a DUmmy as deranged or as entertaining as this whackjob?
I think not.
You can find "Best of TiT" or "Best of Pitt" or "Best of Twix" examples, but for sheer volume of nutty, hilarious work, no one comes close.
Nutcase nadin is hateful and contemptible, and some can't stand her, but no one comes close to her for entertainment value.

On the plus side, she has drawn Obamanaut and SidDithers out into the light of day, and make them comfortable in mocking Nadin's pathetic twisted versions of treasured Prog memes.

Zappaman and a few others have also started to see through her line of BS.
They're not quite as hesitant to call her on it anymore.

Just posted on her FB a few minutes ago:
Well a certain place can't handle anything serious whatsoever. So from now on team sports (politics), Pom Pom items, (same deal) and crunchy non filling "news."

You mean shit she can't make up?
Christ, if she were a Red Sox fan she'd still be pimping "The Curse".
